Making calls on Desk phone through desktop app

Is there a way to dial calls from the ring central desktop application and have them ring out through our desk phones?

We would like to better leverage our Contacts in RC and the chrome extension but everyone on the team has a desk phone, and we'd like to still utilize them.

The only solution we have found is call flipping, but the calls can’t be flipped from the desktop to the desk phone until it connects, leaving customers on hold while we fumble to select the right phone and pick it up.

Is there a solution that will automatically flip the call once dialed or to run the call through the connected desk phone instead of the softphone?

This functionality you want is the same as the call switch feature from desktop to mobile app. However, it is not possible for desk phones. Please submit a feature request in our Ideas Portal at https://ideas.ringcentral.com/. If you want to know more about Call Switch Feature, go to https://support.ringcentral.com/article/9791.html.

Good Morning Mary,

Is this still the case? I have a fairly large customer (banking industry) that is looking to switch to RC, but they need their tellers to be able to use the desktop app to click for an outgoing call and have the call dial out on their actual desktop phone (phone handset to ear). The tellers can't use headsets, so dialing out on the desktop phone is a must. Thanks and have a great day.

You can utilize RingOut to achieve this. Basically, they click the call button of the contact or # they want to dial on the app, it will ask for the destination # to connect the call (their direct line) and then place the call to that # and also connect to the client. The destination # saves after it is entered one time, so their process is streamlined. The default option is to press 1 to connect to the client when the RingOut hits their phone, and I'd recommend keeping that turned on. If not, there is a chance the customer could answer the call before the agent.

Hi,

Thanks, Tak-IT1 for your input. I think that is doable but in no way practical.
Hate to say it, but have a look at the 8x8 app. If there is a desk phone associated with the user's #, you have options on the left sidebar:

  1. Make call through desk phone
  2. Make call through app

RC app: on the right-hand side, we have the dial pad. You can quickly choose which number to use. Why not a second option to select your outgoing device? And the kicker would be to have that option on your cell phone as well.

Great update @doug123!

Here's the step on how to enable it.

In your app, go to Settings > Phone > Scroll down to General > Enable Desktop pairing.

Learn more about this feature as well at https://support.ringcentral.com/article-v2/Pairing-a-deskphone-with-the-RingCentral-app.html?brand=RingCentral&product=MVP&language=en_US

Will the desktop pairing be available in the Team's Ring Central App?

This is a fantastic option for PC/Mac users. Much more convenient to pick a contact on the 'big screen' and make the call with a desk phone (if you prefer a desk phone, like me).
