I'm trying to use the desktop app to dial with and then pick up the handset on the phone to talk and listen but I cannot figure out how to do it. Any suggestions?
This setting can be configured through Call Flip feature. You may check on the KB articles below.

Unfortunately it looks like I dont have that feature. When I bring up the dial pad, dial an extension and click on more, flip is there and it shows the phone number for my deskphone but it says "Sorry, we wern't able to flip the call, try again later."
This really bites because it's so much easier to dial from the PC and speaker talk on the desk phone.

If both the phone are on different extension you can use parking option once the call is connected and continue
The shared line is also an option I guess
