How do I delete a direct message?

I've tried this but it doesn't work because there's no "delete message" option.

Open the conversation that contains the message you wish to edit from the Message tab. Long press (tap and hold) on the message to be edited. Tap Delete message from the messages option menu. Tap Delete to confirm.

Debbie, you can only edit or delete your own message in a group or in a direct message.
