multiple desk phones with 1 phone number

We are having some company changes and no longer need to have extra incoming phone numbers but would like to keep the desk phones. Can we still use our existing desk phones as extensions only or do they require their own phone number

We currently have 4 phones. with 4 numbers plus our main number.
We only use the main phone number. I was hoping that we can drop the excess numbers since we do not use them but still be able to use the desk phones as extensions.

Unless you are using the shared line feature of Ring Central each phone will need its own number

What were you thinking of doing with the phones?

would a soft phone work for this if the desk phones will not?
