Rate increase for Compliance and Administrative Cost Recovery Fee

Was any one notified that RC had a fee increase of $1.00 per line for the Compliance and Administrative Cost Recovery Fee, when I call to inquire about this I am just read the same description as I can read online, no explanation of why they decide to make this increase. If you read the small print you see that this is not a mandated charge, just something they can charge just because they want to. When I pitch my service to potential new clients I always make sure to tell them we have no hidden fees or charges because there are obviously plenty of companies that charge whatever they want.

Notification was made on the billing statement in December 2016. It was worded like this:

"Please be advised that if you are an Office or Pro customer with 0-99 digital lines, the Compliance and Administrative Cost Recovery Fee (CRF) will increase on your next billing statement. There are three categories of change: customers under 20 DLs ($1 per DL increase), customers 20-99 DLs ($0.50 per DL increase), and Pro and Office customers with 0 DLs ($1 per account increase)."

Thanks, that's what I get for not reading my statements and just paying every month, doesn't mean I have to like it but makes more sense now.

You're welcome. I too usually try to read every statement I pay but I admittedly miss one every once in a while.

I got an email a bit different about it 12/29/2016:

Dear Customer,

Due to the increased cost of complying with legal, regulatory, and other requirements, please be advised that the Compliance and Administrative Cost Recovery Fee (CRF) will increase by $1.00 on your next billing statement. Learn more about CRF.

Please also be advised, however, that RingCentral is making efforts to reassess the amounts that it collects from customers for contribution to the Federal Universal Service Fund (FUSF). We believe that these efforts will result in a reduction to the amount collected from the average customer (relative to the services purchased by that customer and in comparison to the amount that would be collected were we not to engage in such reassessment) for FUSF contribution. These reductions depend on the specific services you receive from RingCentral. Learn more about FUSF. We will keep you informed of these changes.

If you have any questions, please call (855) 468-6668.

Here are a few Q & A's on this subject.

Where is this on my statement?

A: If Credit Card: You were notified in your December Statement in the announcement section.

If Invoice: You were notified via email in December

If Annual Payment Plan: We notified you via email one month before your 2017 annual statement.

On RingCentrals's website, it's stated that RingCentral is permitted, but not required, to recover the cost associated with USF from the end-user customer? if it is not required, why do I need to pay this fee?

A:Although not required, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) allows providers to pass the cost of the USF fee to end-user customers. It is common practice in the telecommunications industry to charge a USF fee to help the provider recover this cost. RingCentral, along with many other telecommunication providers, has chosen to use this option and pass the USF fee through as a separate charge on an end-user customers bill. This same charge can be found on most other telecommunication providers invoices as well.
