Configure VLAN settings from admin portal

1. US, new customer deploying a handful of phones in beta environment. 2. Digital marketing 3. Requesting the ability to configure the VLAN setting on phones from the admin portal rather than having to modify the setting on each phone individually. 4. Ring Central recommends VLANS to segment its traffic and apply QoS rules, which is great. But then no way to globally manage VLAN settings on our phones makes things challenging because each phone has to be manually configured from the phone itself or from its web portal, which would be tedious for more than a few phones. 5. Would save setup time and effort. 6. No associated case number. 7. Six phones right now in beta test. Full production environment would be 250+ phones.

Interesting idea, but why not use LLDP/CDP to let the phones find the voice VLAN?  Pretty much any switch that supports VLANs should also support LLDP or CDP.  I am a reseller and install RC this way for most customers.  What kind of phones, BTW?  I think for Polycom you can also provide VLAN via DCHP if not using LLDP or CDP:  http://community.polycom.com/t5/VoIP/FAQ-Utilizing-VLAN-s-with-Polycom-phones/td-p/38100

You know, I've been so traumatized by how difficult my previous VOIP provider made everything that this didn't even occur to me. Setting the switch port to use different VLANs for data and voice worked like a charm: the phone pulls an IP from the voice VLAN and the computer connected to the phone pulls from the data (default) VLAN. Thanks for the reminder! We're using Meraki MS320-48FP routers and MS220-48FP switches at this location. Phones are Cisco SPA514G.

I'm using almost the exact same gear and would love to know the details of how you configured this.

If you're using Meraki switches, you just need to configure the switch ports in the dashboard.  Set the port type to Access, then set the VLAN and Voice VLAN fields to your appropriate stuff.  (This assumes you already have the VLANs defined, of course.)

It takes a few minutes to take effect on the switch, then restart the phone (or cycle the switch port if you're using PoE) and you're done.
