Edit outbound caller ID

Is it possible to add options in the caller ID for outbound calls? For example, I could add an option such as 'My phone' and change the call ID to this so it displays on the recipients phone when I call, and then if I want to block my number select 'Blocked'.

Hello Luke,

You have the option to change you caller ID to multiple numbers on your account. You can choose your main company number, the number on your phone, and any other company numbers you have on your account.

You can also select the "Blocked" option which would cause your Caller ID to show as Unknown or Blocked when calling outbound.

This option can be found by logging into your RingCentral account, selecting the Settings tab, and then selecting Outbound Caller ID on the bottom left of the screen.

If you are an admin you can log in and make these changes to any one's account by selecting the Users tab, select the User you want to make changes to, and then Outbound caller ID on the bottom left. Hope this helps.

That's great, thanks for your reply.

I've located the settings where you can amend the caller ID.

Is it possible to amend these so when you call out it would say the name of your company? Like you can with the 'unknown' or 'blocked'

Is that possible?

In essence what I'm trying to do is have the ability to change the name each time I make an outbound phone call.

Luke,

No...that is not possible based on your second statement. You can have your main DDL (Direct Dial Line) show your company name by completing the Company Caller ID setup under Company Numbers and Info. Then whenever you call out from your main number it will show the name of your company. Toll-Free numbers will always show as "Toll Free Call".

There have been new feature requests here in these forums for what you are requesting. I don't know if that is on the drawing board for the RingCentral development team at this time.

I should clarify part of my second sentence above. When I say your "main DDL" I am referring to whichever direct dial line you would want to have designated as the Caller ID for your company and not necessarily your main account phone number, which in my case is a toll-free number. However my one direct dial line is listed under the company Caller ID and shows up whenever I dial out from that number.

Hello Luke, Jan is correct. You cannot change the caller ID on your number for every call. You can assign the main number a caller name in the Auto-receptionist, but that is only for the main number. The other issue is that Caller Name is not actually sent by RingCentral when you make a call. The caller name that shows on a phone you call is actually determined by the carrier of the called phone. So if you changed the Caller Name on the main number it can take weeks to months before it actually displays differently on a phone that you call.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, just the way telecom works.

Hi, It would be helpful if there is an option or feature that will let our caller ID show the location where we are currently calling from. Hopefully this feature will be available as soon as possible. Any update on this is very much appreciated. Thank you!

Hello. I have tried changing my settings. They all say display direct line and I verify the number is correct. But, when I call out, it continues to display the Main Number. Very Frustrating.

Hey Lauren,

I checked your extension and your desk phone is set up to have the Main Number as the Outbound Caller ID.

To change this:

Go to Settings
Outbound Calls/Faxes
Expand Caller ID

Thank you. That is really odd, even yesterday it showed it was supposed to display my direct line because I went and set that up almost immediately. (I had ring central at a previous employer) Now when I checked it was reverted to the main number again. I hope my changes save and work now. I guess we shall see. :-)
