We've had a variety of request from users to have custom ringtones on the mobile app, desktop app and desk phones.  Please comment and vote on this thread indicating the type of customization you are interested in.

WE use POLYCOM 335 phones for our staff. Incoming customer calls ring most phones at once, as in a "ring group".  However there is a strong need for a DIFFERENT ring-tone for calls dialed directly to a persons number, rather than the ring-group. We have set up a visual system to tell which is which, but you cannot always be near enough to read the screen.  We had this feature with our previous VOIP provider, and it was a highly popular feature.  Unless the Polycom is preventing this, I don't see why RingCentral could not provide.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Ability to have a different ring tone on our desktop phones depending on the opti....

We would like the ability to have a different ring tone on our desktop phones depending on the option our callers choose on the automated system. So if callers can choose option 1 or 2, depending on which option they choose, our desktop phones have a different ring tone depending on which option they choose. That way we can have one phone ring with multiple options, then know which option the caller chose.

We need to be able to have custom ringtontes/notifications for each type of message. SMS/MMS, call, fax etc. for at least the mobile and desktop app please.

We're new to RingCentral and our users have asked several times if they could have a separate ringtone for the mobile app so they know if it's a business call or personal.

justasjan said, its as easy as changing your personal iphone ringtones to anything other than the default tone.

My personal ring tone is not the default ring tone.  Ring central rings whatever my personal ring tone is set as.

I believe if you go into settings/call settings and turn off "integrated calling" this will be corrected.  Note the disadvantage is listed right below the setting (you cannot answer on a locked-screen for example).  I don't know if they've corrected this but when it first came out when you were on a locked screen it came through as if it was on your celll phone and didn't show the RingCentral options even when you tried to open the screen.  Because of this I have this disabled.

Wow!  That works!  Finally!!!  I can answer it from a locked screen, however a personal call - will interrupt the ring central call. I guess there are trade offs.  Thank you.

Dawn,

Did you try what I suggested? You don't have to give up anything with my solution. Don't select the "Default" ringtone as I believe that is the Xylophone ring tone.

I have Integrated Calling set to ON and I don't have to give up calls cutting off other calls to have a separate ring tone. Once your RingCentral call gets dropped once or twice when you get a personal phone call, you will want to turn Integrated Calling back on.

Let me know if you tried my solution. IT WORKS!

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled User-Selectable Ringtone.

At the request of RingCentral Technical Support, I am documenting my request to have a user-selectable ringtone setting added to the mobile app (to match the desktop version). I was surprised that it took approx 40 minutes to get an answer via support chat to answer my simple question - where is the ringtone setting for the app?  The initial response was that RC follows the user's ringtone.  When I said that my install didn't behave this way, the answer changed to the app will only use the default iOS ringtone and I should suggest a new feature here.

it would be nice if you could set the tone to a list of ringtones or assign it any ringtone that is also on your device.

I see a 6 month discussion with everyone wanting it, and Ring Central not really doing anything. Why even bother to post?

Well, if nothing else, to be an irritant.  If a wheel squeaks once, nobody cares.  If it continues to squeak, it kinda gets under their skin.

My company is new to RingCentral, and I'm one of the first guinea pigs to use it. I find it laughable that you can't change the ringtone for the iOS app. Ever since I first got an iPhone I switched away from using that annoying default Xylophone tone, and now that's what RingCentral is using? It's not even using the default tone that I changed to. At least then I wouldn't mind the sound, but having personal and business calls have different ring tones (as many others have requested) would be so beneficial.

And yeah, I joined the community just to say that.

yeah its odd that the app uses probably the most annoying mobile ringtone since nokia phones, yet it would be nice to distinguish between calls( personal, RC direct # dialed, RC call queue calls, Etc.)

This is a must have for my company as well. Allow the app to choose existing ringtones on the cell phone. Most of my users are Android but we also have some iPhones as well.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Distinctive Ring for External vs Internal calls.

  1. Account type: US
  2. A brief description of the business: Small business, most employees in one site, a few off-site employees.
  3. Ability to have a different ring for an external or internal phone call.
  4. All of our phones ring when an external call is coming in.  Since some employees work off-site, they do not answer typically when calls come in, they are often the backup when the main office is closed.  However, there is not way to tell, unless you look at the phone each time it rings, if the call is from external to the main phone #, or an internal call, or a call being transfered to you.
  5. Allows off-site employees to know if the phone is for them!
  6. N/A
  7. 7-10 users currently

I don't believe anyone is looking to CREATE their own personal ringtones (which can be done easily on a smartphone anyway) but they would like to have the capability to change the ringtone in the desktop app, smartphone app or on the desk phone.

Not sure why one would close a ticket that has not been resolved.  Kind of like taking your car to the mechanic and having them not work on it before you pick it up...

Except that no one actually took their car to the mechanic. We're trying to see if they can work on it in the first place. They appear not to be able to. ;-)

Best to keep it open like several other issues they won't address.  Keep picking at them, keep the fight alive.  Actually, we have taken the car to the mechanic and said "It isn't working the way we NEED it to work".  Right now, it's sitting in the back lot just waiting.

Wow.  We are new to RingCentral.  I just had a simple request from a user, how do I choose a different ringtone for the mobile app. Disappointing to read the comments from so many customers. Our firm would like this "feaure".... User would like to choose the ringtone used by the mobile app on their smartphone.

Thanks

Besides the point Chris.  I'm sure they tried everything and gave up.  Why are you defending something that has been requested for years by lots of CUSTOMERS! and ignored by the CORPORATION.  I'm glad to see them go.  Once their failures start hitting the bottom line, they might realize that they are a SERVICE company and are not providing the service their customers want or need.  My boss told me to find another vendor.  Unfortunately, it was within days of renewing our contract and couldn't get done.  Wait til next year.

@Chris Duquette...I'm sure they did have the cell phone ring volume turned up so they could try to hear it. Why did you assume they did not? If you read his post it stated that the tone itself was a "soft tone". That would be quite different than an alarm tone for example.

I agree with Jay. They have every right to post on this board as do you. Maybe they thought that by stating their plight publicly it would help to highlight the issue. Yet you criticized them for doing so.

Chris, if it was that simple we would have done it. The ringtone was just a soft tone. You can only turn up the volume so much. When you work with people internationally you need to be able to wake up. Especially that first hour of sleep where it is hard to wake up even with a loud tone. Factor in being called often overnight when we’re busy, the lack of sleep doesn’t help the matter. When your ringtone sounds like raindrops or a soft score from the pan flute, you’re going to sleep right through it. Ignore the seemingly obvious answers. They have been tried. We wouldn’t toss out a switch and lose all installation charges because of a simple solution. However, in today’s world it’s hard to say if people tried the easiest option.
I still get alerts on this message board from a message I posted years ago. With all the headache a simple problem put us through, I will continue to ring a bell for their lousy service that caused us to go a different route. Imagine putting in a service ticket, they continually come back with a solution for a completely different problem, then they close the ticket and we have to start all over again. We had to word our issue to the letter where they couldn’t wiggle out by the “misinterpretation” excuse. Over and over again. Finally got them to agree it cannot be done and they aren’t going to do anything about it. They hire a third party developer to create the app and it would take a rebuild to change it. They weren’t willing to pay more to fix a problem a huge part of their customer base complains about. This has been going on for almost 10 years now. That should say something.

Yes, the customer is never right with RingCentral.  It's amazing to me that a service company is willing to lose customers rather than make an attempt to provide the service the customer needs.  I guess that's why Vonage beats out RingCentral in 9 out of 10 review sites.  Not that I put a lot of faith in those sites.

It’s very unfortuante. I don’t want to see their business fail or even see them lose business. Then they’d have to lay off employees and that’s not good for anybody. I just wish they’d address the problem. I pulled out a lot of hair dealing with it and their lack of proper support (mainly the run around I’d always get). I’d be a happy customer right now if that one single issue (which was large to my business) would have been addressed in a new build or update of the application.

02-01-2018 The purpose of the Community Forum is for helping customers figure out how to use their Ringcentral products to their most efficient level.

This discussion has devolved from an original feature request, to something else entirely.

I do not view this is a helpful discussion, it seems now to have become a complaint thread.

If you are a customer of RingCentral and you are not receiving the level of customer service you require, please contact your Customer Success Manager and discuss your needs with them.

Do not use this Community to slam RingCentral products, services or employees or the extol the virtues of services offered by competing companies.

Yes, but when the company drops the ball and appears to ignore their customers, who have taken a lot of time out of their day to come here and address them, it only stands to reason that RC is not going to get that respect.

There's a feature release coming feb 8th, one of the topics is mobile and desktop enhancements so let's see what happens after that. If nothing, then maybe a board mod will chime in and give an inside take once and for all.

My post wasn't intended to ruffle feathers or cause a day long argument about missing features, no hard feelings folks. everyone does have a right to post here, the way you post is totally up to you.

My experience with people saying "my phone just stopped ringing" usually leads to a simple fix the phone being in DND, therefore it was simply an observation that he turn up the volume. Yes id assume he'd check that prior to just switching his business' service unless it was something that effected him greatly.

Sorry I still can't give an ETA for this. This is certainly something that's been under consideration and discussion for quite some time now. All I can say, according to our Product Team is that this is still a backlog item, and that you might see it in Glip at some point.  However as you know we have hundreds of feature requests which have to go through a prioritization process.

yeah at this point, just being able to change what ring the app makes upon first installing would be great, just to make it something else to distinguish it from personal calls would be good.

We are in need of a way to differentiate when a client calls a specific phone # from a marketing piece, it gets forwarded to our main line and then rings all our admin in the office.  There is one specific marketing piece that calls are handled VERY differently for.  We need a way to differentiate when those calls are coming through vs all the other types of calls we get.  Even simply differentiating by ringtone would be SUPER helpful!!

In the iOS mobile app we desperately need to be able to pick different ring tones. The default ring tone is so 1990s that I am very embarrassed for anyone to hear my phone ringing.
