This conversation has been merged. Please reference the main conversation: Desktop App: allow Notifications/Calls to be heard on both headset and speakers- Multiple audio ringer settings

Text message notifications are treated as "Speaker", not "Ringer", sounds, so unless I have my headphones on all day, I will not hear Text Message notifications.

Should they not be treated as "Ringer", especially since RingCentral already recognizes a similar distinction for call rings vs call audio?

Note: This conversation was created from a reply on: Ringtone only ouputs on Speaker during setup not on Ringer.

I created a new "idea" topic for this. I can see how it would be nice to have the ability to change the notification to whichever device you wish.

While you are waiting for your suggestion to be implemented, may I suggest two options? (1) program your text notifications to text your cell phone and/or (2) program your text notifications to email you.

Just to be clear, this is not on the cell phone. This is on the PC client.

Correct.   I think Danno was just offering an alternative for getting notifications.  I do the same thing (have notifications sent to via text to my cell phone), so if someone sends me an SMS and I'm not at my PC or don't hear the audible tone, I get the text notification on my phone.  I realize this isn't ideal but might work for some users.

As a Ringcentral for Windows user who uses a wireless headset;  it sure would be nice to be able to have multiple audio sources set to ring. If I set my headset down on my desk I tend to miss a lot of calls. If I have the audio source set to Speaker I can't hear the speaker ringing when my headset is on. The old Softphone app seemed to let you set multiple ringers. Could you add that functionality back in?

I like the idea of more settings for notification sounds. I have the ringer on my softphone set to my speakers, as I don't like the ringing directly in my ears. I'd like to be able to set the notification sounds in the same way. I currently have them turned off. Again, this is because I only want the conversation directly from headphones to ears due to the sharpness of the sounds. An alternative (maybe even preferable) would be to have a separate volume setting for the ringer and notification sounds. I could turn them down individually and wouldn't get the bite from the sharp sound that way.

I have 2 topics for this idea that I need to merge.  I want all they extra details you have to offer, so please post comments to the Parent Topic:  Desktop App: allow Notifications/Calls to be heard on both headset and speakers- Multiple audio ringer settings!

I will merge this topic at the end of the day today allowing you go copy/paste or add anything necessary.  :-) When I merge this topic to the Parent topic, your LIKES will be combined to the other topic.  Let me know if you have any questions.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled More obvious text message notifications.

We have a large number of users who don't leave the RingCentral for Windows app up all the time and aren't good about checking their messages section regularly. By default users aren't setup to receive email notifications of text messages as this can be noisy during a lengthy back and forth conversation. We intend to use the text messaging primarily as our inter-office chat system. The problem with its current implementation is if the user is away from their desk the notification sound and balloon tip will be missed.

My idea would be an option to have the RingCentral for Windows app pop up to the conversation view when a new message is received. This would occur even if the user wasn't present and would be visible after they returned as it wouldn't time out like a balloon tip.

I like this as well. I'm currently in the process of checking out the new GLIP program, and though I'm not sold on it yet for my purposes, it seems that one of it's strengths is interoffice communication. Something to look at anyway.

From what I've seen of GLIP, its like the 900 pound gorilla, its a fantastic tool for collaboration but if all you need is basic unified communications, which is what RingCentral is supposed to be for, its a little too much for that.

I can't believe this isn't being treated as a more critical feature. USB headsets are very, very common now. Like most people, I use mine for all talking/calling, but do NOT leave it on my head the entire day! And if we're going to trust text messaging through this system there must be options to handle the audio notifications in a better manner.

I see this thread (as well as other related threads) has been around for almost a year now! This feature can't be that difficult to implement. Please, please, please push this into the development queue so that we can use and trust the system.
