Allowing users in ring group to use callerID of other user

I have a virtual extension that receives calls via a published number.  I then have multiple users added to a ring group under Call Handling & Forwarding so they will all get the call when it comes into the virtual ext.

I want the real users to be able to return phone calls that display the callerID of the virtual extension.  These users are setup in multiple ring groups like this, so I cannot set each user's callerID to the number.

How can I allow these users to call "on behalf of" this other virtual ext, using the virtual outgoing caller ID?

Are the "real" users using a desk phone or the APP?

They are on a desk phone but we plan to roll out the desktop app to them, so a method using either of those would work.

So the desktop APP would be the way to go.  Originate the call from the Call Log tab.  When you click on the green phone button, you'll get the option to select your outgoing CLID.

Oh, I just remembered, you can change the Outgoing CLID (on the extension) for "RingOut from Web" and then make the outgoing call from the portal.  That's how you can do it for the desk phones.

Plus, RC is rolling out hotdesking.  May or may not be an option too.  I just haven't seen much information on it as of today.

Hey Brian,

The first thing I wanted to touch on was allowing your users access to the number as an outbound caller ID. If the number in question isn't already, move it to the company pool (if it's a direct number you can do this by selecting it to go to the auto receptionist). From there, setup a custom rule that points all calls to that number to your virtual extension. Keeping the number in your company pool allows any user access to set it as their outbound caller ID.

Would these users always be using this caller ID, or would they be switching back and forth all day?

If they are switching back and forth and using a desk phone, there really isn't a good way to switch caller ID on the fly without having your users log into the portal, change their extensions outbound caller ID, save, and then place the call.

If they are using the softphone, they would simply need to select the drop down menu above the dialer, and choose the appropriate outbound caller ID. They could switch this on the fly for every call.

Hopefully this helps your situation! If you have any further questions, feel free to let me know :)

Thanks,

Sam
