Integrate: SMS messages

We would like to be able to send SMS order updates from our toll free number to customers in an automated way from our server.

Along the lines of:

"Your order has shipped UPS Tracking: 1ZXXXXXXXXXX".

I am very interested in extended SMS features. My dispatchers communicate and take incoming orders by SMS, so it would be amazing if they could all have a separate log-in to the app, and the SMS works like most LiveChat applications does.

Hi all - nice idea. Currently, only the RC app for iOS and Android can send Business SMS messages. Our new softphone (slated for release in the next few months) will be able to send them, too. So it's possible that automated SMS will be a possibility down the road, but it'd have to be after we make our API publicly available (which should also happen sometime in 2014).

When will the API be ready?  I am also seeking to access SMS via API for both sending and receiving SMS messages in our Software Applications.  Also will RingCentral offer a SHORT-CODE option for SMS ?????

I have the Ring Central app for Android and there is no text message options. How are you able to send text messages which the Android app

First, do you have a RingCentral Office account? SMS functionalty is free with an Office account.
Second, are you logging into your Android app with a digital line number? A toll-free number or any non-digital line number will not allow for SMS functionality.

Finally, in the most recent Android app, click on the carat symbol ( ^ ) in the bottom menu. It will open up a sub-menu of additional functionality, including New Texts.

In the heading of this conversation it says "implemented".
Does this mean that the SMS API is already functioning?
Where can I find the documentation?
I couldn't find any information, neither here in the forum, nor in RingCentral customer support center.
We desperately need the ability to send SMS programmatically.
