I'd like to be able to block these type of numbers. We receive 1-2 SPAM messages a week from 5 digit numbers.Note: This conversation was created from a reply on: Unable to send SMS to a 5-digit number.

Hello,

I don't have a 5 digit number to test this with but have you tried blocking the number according to these instructions?

I did block the number, however, when I entered the 5 digit number, the web portal inserted a 1 before the number. I will have to wait and see if the messages stop.

Saadet,

Got another text message from '25102' today. When I checked our blocked numbers, '125102' was still there in the list. I deleted it, and tried entering '25102' but, the webportal automatically added the '1'.

Is there a work around to remove this default "1," from being added to your blocked number in your blocked list?

Hi list updates weee a year ago. I literally received 2 text messages from each of the following numbers: 91593, 53294 within the last 20 minutes.

Ring Central doesnt allow me to send “stop” to the numbers.

Please assist and prioritize the limitation to allow texting to short codes.

What is the status of this in the dev queue?

Thank you.
So when I've done it, the softphone says the number IS blocked but the messages still come in.  I've had over 600 from the same source in the past year and its been almost 3 years since I first asked to have it addressed.  It seem completely ridiculous that we are still struggling with this.

Completely agree. This is so ridiculous for not being taken care of over many YEARS!

Have you tried blocking it from the softphone itself as well?

Let me know if it works!

I'm not able to find a place in the app to block this number.

Does NOT work to block the 5 digit codes. I'm getting them DAILY now. This needs to be fixed so we can text to 5 digit numbers and reply STOP so we can be taken off their spam marketing lists.
I agree...I do not need a home warranty three times a day or texts from a 5-digit number to "Jameson" about what is going on in the world.  I can not disable text messages because some are actually legit.  I am just the admin and I will not put RingCentral on my personal cell phone.  Blocking the number automatically puts a "1" in front so that is no good. This needs a solution please, it has been way too long to figure this out.

Is there an update for this problem? There is no way we have found to block SMS Text spammers in the Ringcentral desktop app if the spammer's number contains 5-digits. Attempts to add them to the block list are rejected with a message that "extension numbers that cannot be blocked." Apparently, only numbers containing 6-digits or more can be blocked.

Hello Alan,

We don't have an ETA at this point. This is a fairly new feature request that has been presented to our Product team. Please vote in the upper right-hand corner so that you will receive updates as they become available.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled block SMS from short code.

It does not appear to be possible to block SPAM SMS messages sent from a short code (e.g. 78645).  The block icon does not appear when displaying the message in the windows application like it would for a text from a regular number and when you try to add the short code to the list of numbers in the settings window it does not accept the number and displays the message "Extension numbers cannot be blocked".  It doesn't work on the website either.  It adds a 1 to the short code (178645).
Is there any update to this issue.  It's become a real problem for us.  The 1 is inserted so you can not block or even send back a "stop" instruction.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Feature request: SMS messages to 5 digit numbers.

Feature request to allow messaging to 5 digit numbers. If sending a message to an external number put OUT## infront of the 5 digits to route the call to the outside instead of thinking it is a local extension.
this feature would help remove the promotional messages or spam that a lot of users have. and it prevents just blocking the number from the gui

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Blocking Caller ID Less than 3-5 digits.

  1. Account type: RC Office 20+
  2. A brief description of the business : Retail Store
  3. A high level description of the product or feature being requested: For example, customer would receive a caller with a single digit caller id (not an extension on his account). Like a caller ID that shows "1" which isn't a real call, but it can't be blocked it as it would block all the calls that come in. (all numbers have a 1 at the beginning when it hits the call log, so blocking 1 will block all calls).
  4. A typical use case scenario explaining how your business would use the feature. Number can be safely blocked so that they only receive calls from real people/customers, instead of all calls being rejected when (for example) the number "1" is blocked.
  5. Benefit of such feature: Customer can avoid calls that interrupt their business and receive calls only from actual clients.
  6. Include any related case number if applicable: 05630491
  7. Number of Users and/or Digital Lines: 101 extensions, 105 digital lines

Hmmm....that I'm not sure about. You would have to ask one of our Support Technicians or an Engineer - hopefully they would know!

Re spam blocking, apparently one unpublished way to block 5 digit SMS messaging spam texts:
Login to your SuperAdmin ext#101 on the Mobile app. (Not desktop or browser) it works only from the Mobile app.

Note, it will produce a Global block across your whole account when you enable it from Extension#101

Agreed. Blocking does not work for me either.

Besides, some are legit, so we need to be able to interact with the 5 digit numbers just like 10 digit numbers.

+1We really need to be able to block these numbers.  Our end users are getting very annoyed at these random texts.  RC support says it's not possible yet but they "Are working on it".
We use the texting feature.  We'd just like to be able to block the advertising texts. (5 and 6 digit style)  In almost all cases I cannot change the end user number because they have their numbers on business cards that our customers use...
Honestly, I've added to my task list, an activity to review the competitors of RingCentral just because of this issue.  It seems completely ridiculous to me that month after month this is not addressed.  I'm just about fed up.

We will definitely be dropping RC when contract is up in a few months. This inability to block or text to 5- or 6-digit numbers is one of the reasons for it. Not the only or biggest reason, but one of them.

We only recently signed up and I'm already looking for an out. Voyant didn't have as many bells and whistles, but way easier to work with. Still don't understand why there is so many different apps. Still on the hunt for an alternative. Suggestions?

Do you mean Voyage? I have CSR sales calls set with them as well as Verizon amd AT&T VoIP teams on Monday. I'll let everyone know what I find out. Can't believe RC would risk losing customers over a minor issue like this.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Block 5 digit sms text numbers.

I've been searching for an update on RingCentral upgrading their system to allow their customers to block 5 digit sms text messages and cannot find where anything has been done.  I must say I'm absolutely over receiving these unwanted spam texts.  And I'm frustrated at not being able to block a 5 digit number or to be able to reply with 'stop' to get the sender to stop sending messages.  If I can block these 5 digit numbers on my cell phone how come the RingCentral desktop and/or app won't let me do it?  Does anyone have any idea how these annoying text messages can be stopped or blocked?
Yes Joyce I completely agree with you.  If I was not so busy right now, I would have switched my company to a different service, just to get this one issue resolved.  It is beyond me that there is not someone working on this and at least keeping us informed.

Please let us know when there will be an update. I would also like to hear from others who they might be considering over Ring Central. So many issues that go completely unaddressed and unheard.

When I spoke with phone support in early December I was told they were working on this issue but that I needed to post a request to the community so RingCentral would know it was a requested enhancement.  When I stated that the ability to block 5 digit numbers was already posted several times to the community I was told I still needed to post a request for the enhancement but it's already in the works.  Could never get a straight answer out of the phone rep if they are working on it for sure or I needed to post, yet again, to the community requesting it.  I didn't take the evasiveness as a good sign.

This is kind of funny, but seriously needs to be addressed.  If Ring Central is going to allow SMS communication it needs to fully support it, and replying 'stop' to end messages is a universally recognized function of SMS communication (and required by law).

Agreed @Peter. RC is not allowing us to legally opt out and is forcing us to continue to receive sms spam.

I’m not sure blocking these numbers would be as effective as allowing users to reply to them with the word ‘stop’ which is not currently possible from what I can tell. I subscribed to a legitimate SMS campaign (not spam) and I no longer wish to receive messages from the service. I am not able to text ‘stop’ to end the messages. All SMS marketing campaigns are supposed to honor a ‘stop’ request by law but Ring Central doesn’t allow me to reply to them.

Here's another vote to implement this feature request to be able to block text message spammers that are spamming RingCentral phone numbers with 5 digits, 6 digits or other caller ID lengths.
We have been spammed by a spammer utilizing callerID 555888 to send text messages to our phone system.
