A little more information about your situation would be helpful. You don't mention whether you have a RingCentral Office, Professional or Fax plan. You also don't mention whether you are an administrator on the account and how many other persons are users on the account.

As far as faxes being received...they are like phone calls. You don't have to initiate a fax to receive one. You can receive spam faxes, just like spam phone calls. However, if you receive a fax that doesn't seem to be for you and it has information on it, like a sender's name and phone number, you can contact them and ask them if they have the correct fax number.

If you are an administrator and you are looking at the Call Log from the Administrator segment of the portal, it will show all faxes sent and received by the account, even if other persons in your business sent the fax.

Other than these possibilities, you would have to initiate a ticket with support, or contact them if you have random numbers showing up in your log where you nor any business associates have not sent out a fax and you have not received any faxes that isn't a spam fax.

Sorry, that was rather vague wasn't it.
I have 5 instances.
1.  shows from my fax number , fax failed
2.  shows from my fax number, fax failed
3.  shows to my fax number, fax sent, nothing received
4.  shows to my fax number, fax received, nothing received
5.  shows from my fax number, fax failed

I am the only one using this number/service and I'm using it for FAX only.
These are showing in my call log but nothing shows in messages as me sending or receiving.
Again, the ones that are showing as from me (failed) I didn't not initiate.
The ones showing to me, again nothing received

Very strange. This is beyond what I have seen from any of my clients as a reseller of RingCentral. I recommend you start a ticket with RingCentral support or call their support line. I don't know how long you have had your account. If it's a fairly new account it could be residual from a previous user of that number (as far as the received faxes) but that doesn't explain the faxes allegedly sent by you.

I suppose you should change your password on the chance that someone has compromised your account and is using it to send faxes.  There is also a method to send faxes via email to <phone>@rcfax.com and there is a place in your user setting to choose allowed from: email addresses.  I would look at that setting and I suppose it is possible someone sends faxes via email spoofing your email address.
