Recently, our company has been getting texts back from someone saying "stop calling" meanwhile we have not called the number that texts us back. Anyone know how I can check into this further?

We had this happen to us a few weeks back. People were calling into our corporate office saying that someone from our company was calling them being rude, swearing at them... It lasted a few day then stopped. There were no calls to the numbers they were calling from and I think it was all just a scam or prank. We sent it to support but there was not much they could do since there were no record of the calls. my first reaction was that our number was being spoofed but since it only lasted a few days I don't think so. If you do think your number is being spoofed the only thing you can do is report it to the FCC.

If your number was spoofed it didn't connect through the RingCentral system. Therefore it won't show in your call logs. Based on what you're reporting, my opinion is that your number was spoofed.

We have been experiencing this as well.  Is this a RingCentral problem because of leaked phone numbers or is it the latest and greatest virus/spam that take no preference to where your phone number is purchased.

Leaked phone number? Think about it....before you got "Your" phone number, how many people might have had it before you. Beyond that, there are really no "private" numbers. No....it's not a RingCentral problem. Spammers and scammers out there use many different programs and devices to call random numbers, or to spoof your number or to cal a series of numbers using a spoofed number. (If they use your number or another "legitimate" number it's harder, although not impossible to trace it back to the spammer.)

**UPDATE**
I called the person who was complaining of the calls "from my office" He gave me the number that he said kept calling him. That number is nowhere to be found in my RC account in any form or fashion. When I call that number back it does however ring only 1 extension in my office. The direct line for that user is nowhere close to the number that is actually calling the person being bothered.
This is what spoofing is?

Hey Chris, it's a number on the back end. So anyone could spoof that number, as Jan mentioned

The ONLY way that I know of that you can not have that happen (and I could be incorrect on this) is if you don't install or use ANY softphones anywhere on your account.

I believe this only happens for extensions that have a desk phone assigned and they're using the softphone that is included in that DL. I don't believe a softphone only DL has this happen since that phone number is directly assigned to the softphone - while in the other case, the number is assigned to the desk phone.

gotcha, thanks for the insight. I deauthorized that user from softphone use as she never uses it.
