Can you attach an ATA device for a physical fax machine to a Limited Extension?

The knowledge articles I have seen so far provides information on setting up ATA devices on full digital lines, but not for Limited Extensions. However I was informed by RC sales that it is possible. Please advice on this matter.

As limited extensions have limited functionality ( no call handling or other info ) can they still be used to connect a Fax machine via an ATA without any issues.

Don, what are you trying to accomplish.  I have never seen the ability to provision a device on a "Limited Extension"

Explain what you would like to do and we could assist

Thanks

We simply want the ability to configure an ATA on a limited extension so it can receive faxes. Vs. adding the ATA/fax machine to a regular phone line ( digital subscription )

You can give the extension a DID number - so it can receive incoming faxes.
Limited extensions can also make outgoing calls.
May have issues when it receives two simultaneous calls (meaning, no busy tone provided).
No Call handling means you can't have it forward or transfer calls to other users, but if you are using as a traditional fax, then all should be good.

Correct.. This is what we have found so far. You can attach a limited extension to a fax, however you are limited to the settings provided. Since there are no call handling settings are provided, we are unable to customize the settings as described in the typical Fax/ATA setup. Also since you are not able to receive voicemails or use the desktop app you will not be able to forward the faxes in a digital format. You can only use this as a traditional fax machine.

Faxing on a limited extension is not recommended or supported.  This type of extension is designed for making and receiving voice calls only.  As noted earlier you may see it work at times, though there are times where faxes will be lost or purely not be able to be sent/received.  Since this is not supported this may change from what you see today as well.
