Change outbound name

It would be great if the outbound name can be changed on the fly, similar to outbound number (at least from the soft phone). this would be great for companies that use multi-site feature and have users that might make calls on behalf for more than 1 company. Majority of the on-prem PBXs allow this.

Technically, this can be done but there are some limitations and it's not usually cost-effective, depending on the circumstance.

Assuming you are using Polycom phones, you would be able to configure individual lines in the phone's web interface and simply register them as devices under different seats. On those seats, you would then select "Caller ID Name" of the seat and name it appropriately.

Essentially, each physical line/key on your device would register under a different seat and you would name the seat(s) as the company the user needs to make a call on behalf of. When they wish to make an outbound call with the name of that company, they would press their associated line key, dial the number, and it places a call using that seat's "Caller ID Name."

I've done quite a few companies this way, but it all depends on the use case and if it fits your needs/is cost-effective. You would need unlocked devices for this to work, or acquire the credentials from RC - but that would likely void the warranty.

do you have any screenshots of how you configured the polycoms with the above config?

Sure, you would create "Other Devices" under the applicable seat you wish to use for Caller ID. So, pretend this is "Company A" and they have a seat. Add a device to this seat and acquire the config details (auth ID, password, user name, sip server and outbound proxy).

Once you have that, you would fill out the info under "Line 2," "Line 3" and so on. If we did this for "Line 2", the "Other device" would register under that seat as "Company A's" seat name.

Once it successfully registers, you would then select the option to use "Caller ID Name" on that extension. You would also change the outbound caller ID of that "Other device" registered to "Company A" so that it reflects the appropriate outbound name (the seat's "Caller ID Name") and appropriate outbound # display (the seat's outbound caller ID of the Other Device.)

When you or your staff wish to make a call using the name/outbound ID of "Company A", you would first press Company A's line key, dial the number and voila.

Caveat: I am from Canada and specialize in the whitelabel RC version that a major telco rebrands. There are always discrepancies between any whitelabel version of RC, but I assume that it will work the same way. You will also not be able to do this without an unlocked phone + admin password. If you purchased your phones from RC, this would likely void your warranty so that is at your discretion to make any of the changes I suggested.
