COMMON AREA PHONES: Checkbox preference setting to hide extensions from directory

About 500 of our extensions are common area phones which we would like to hide from view in the public-searchable User Directory.  These are courtesy phones where we do not want calls "in" and no voicemail.  We have them currently programmed as "no voicemail just hangup"  but the extension#'s still appear in the Directory.  It seems like it would not be a difficult thing to add a feature where in the Admin Portal these could be obscured by a simple checkbox "show in Directory" or "Do not show in Directory"

Good idea.  As an FYI, (until the feature request is provided) try giving the common phones a first name of "ZZ", so they appear at the very end of the directory.  That's what I've done - and sharing the suggestion.

We have already done that for the same reason, but people still call them and ring them endlessly and this irks the people who work anywhere near a common area phone.  We have told them to turn off the ringer volume, but users are not great at just following the directions.   It would be more logical to have this setting be centrally applied from the Admin Console.

We have something similar, but we are a Fire Dept. and our stations are configured with phones not assigned to anyone and we don't want them to show up in the directory.  We also configured some speed dials and common group numbers to locations.  Having that checkbox to show/not show in the directory would be awesome!!

Any progress on this, has it made the engineering development roadmap?   Even though we have these phones set specifically not to accept Voicemail,  the RC system passes voicemail to them periodically and I have to go manually clean out 100's of phones one by one.   This is a real painpoint.   Or could be associated to a new pre-configured Role - "Courtesy Phone" ?

Sorry Cecile,  No ETA on this at all.  We get so many feature requests and the planning process to get the most beneficial requests can take many months, to get worked into the plan.  The more votes and beneficial use case scenarios that members provide, the more it shows up on the radar.   So, every one please keep commenting and voting.

09-18-2017  Thanks Saadet - this is great news, I am having an issue with a permutation of this problem right now...   not a case to open --- telemarketers are able to get to top management with their phone calls because of not being able to limit which phones and lines are revealed in the Dial By Name Directory

I'm voting for this but with a somewhat different impetus than those mentioned thus far. We just signed up for RC, coming from a PBX system. We have a couple of executives who need actual phones with extension and external numbers but absolutely do not wish their numbers to be displayed in the contacts or otherwise findable. One, for example, is a retiring senior executive who is still consultative. Another is a financial consultant, seldom on premises  and only needed/accessible to a tiny contingent of users.

This feature is direly needed, our directory is getting so full now after federating our accounts. It's full of common area or shared phones, so much in fact that people don't  even use the directory because of how cluttered it is. 

RC give us this option!!!

09-18-2017 USA-based account 2087 users 2800 DIDs and about 500 Courtesy phones (all polycom VVX500)   we set a call rule in Advance Call Handling section of the portal   where all calls between 12am and1145pm 7 days a week are sent the announcement.  the call rule setup doesn't allow for any tighter parsing - but it helped a lot.

This should also be an option for message-only extensions, not only for user extensions!
