Default Voice Mail Name Didn't Change When Phone Reassigned

Because of employee turnover, we reassign phones. We create an extension for each new person - one that hasn't been used before. Then, we go to Phone System > Phones & Devices and assign the phone to the new user's extension and change the name of the phone. We restart the phone. But, some of the time, the old name remains. How do we make the default name update? I know we could record the name or do text-to-speech, but we don't typically do that with any extension. I want to know how to make the default name update.

Linda, did you fully delete the old ext, and then reassign it to a new ext?

Are you implying that, even though the phone was re-assigned to a completely new extension, that the *old* extension needs to be fully deleted for this process to function as expected?

Sounds like a bug to me...

Yes, we deleted the old extension, first. That's interesting - when we didn't delete the old extension and left it unassigned to any phone, we haven't had this problem. That could be a coincidence, of course.

For the record, our re-deployment process is the same as yours (by that I mean, we re-deploy phones correctly, per RC's instructions), and we also have this issue periodically. I could never figure out a rhyme or reason to it.

I'll echo these sentiments. Same issue here on at least two occasions now. We fixed it by going to the part where you can specify a custom text to speech name and putting it in there.

Don't know why I didn't think of doing that as a workaround.

Still hoping for a solution, but 10/10 common sense here that I apparently don't have myself. ;)

We've done that as an alternative, but I'd rather find out what is wrong and fix it that way.

08-08-2017 We have 2060 users presently and are increasing steadily. We routinely re-assign phones without assigning a "new" extension - as each extension is tied to its own DID 10 digit number.  In the USERS tab of the portal - the places you need to edit are https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B5jORN3wB9xJU0hjZUFTUTNQMGc?usp=sharing

That seems like very strange behavior and I've never run into it. Next time this occurs, please create a case so we can take a look and see what might be going on. Include as much information as possible :)
