Dialling an invalid number should give a spoken warning

Problem

When we dial an invalid number, such as leaving out a digit or using an invalid prefix, the RC line simply returns an engaged sound !

This is not the standard since with landline phones (e.g. BT and Virgin Media) you will hear a message stating something like "That number has not been recognised" or "You have dialled and invalid number".

I have contacted RC support and they have advised that this engaged signal is 'how the system is designed'.

Impact


1) We don't know that we have dialled an invalid number.

2) If a client is waiting for a call from us at a specific time and when we dial we hear an engaged tone we will wait a while before calling again. From our point of view we have acted with the best of intentions but from the client's we have not called them when we said we would.

This does not give a good impression and could even lead to lost business if it is a lead and not an existing client. Very unprofessional.

Suggested solution

Simply have a spoken warning informing the user that the number dialled has not been recognised.

I can only assume this is not configurable by the administrator.

Most phone systems give a dead tone or a message indicating invalid number indicating has been dialed. Ring central appears to give a tone indicating the phone is engaged. This is misleading.

The caller could end up inputting the incorrect number "forever" not realising their error in keying in or recording an incorrect number. e.g. dialing 03.. instead of 0033 for France

I totally agree with this request with issue being addressed
