Does sending a fax via e-mail require an authenticated account?

We use SMTP relay to send scanned documents via e-mail.  The sender's e-mail address is copier@jwcc.edu, but the address does not actually exist.  I have allowed that address to send faxes via e-mail, but RingCentral Fax doesn't seem to have received the transmission.  Do we need to use an actual account so that we can authenticate?

Yes, the email address must be added through the web portal. For instructions see:  Adding a Trusted Email Address to Send Faxes
I've added the address through the portal along with my own address.  I sent a fax from Outlook with my address to a fax machine with no issues.  When I used an MFP, which sends from copier@jwcc.edu, to send to the same fax machine, the fax was never received.  RingCentral has no record of it.

Sorry I wasn't fully understanding your first post.  I see you commented that the email address doesn't really exist, so it sounds like it's most likely coming from a different email address, but just appears to be from copier@jwcc.edu

Can you send an email to community.support@ringcentral.com from the MFP?  When I get the email, I'll open it up and examine the header to see if I can identify a different email address that it's truly coming from.

Mike
Thanks.  I just sent a scanned document from the MFP.
Any update on this?

John, hopefully this will help clear things up.

Each user that is setup on Ring Central get's faxing and phone service (Office plans of course)

Then you could add up to 5 additional E-Mail addresses that could be used for Faxing through the system  (You do not need an additional Digital line with RC to make this work)

The thought is that people have work and personal E-Mail so they could use a personal E-mail to fax out also.

just add in the E-mail addresses and you should be good

Thanks

Chuck

John Wood Community College,

Sorry I thought I emailed you back. Perhaps I replied to the wrong address. As Chuck stated you should be able to add the email address that is sending the emails.  Can you send a personal/reply email to community.support@ringcentral.com so that I can email you direct.

Mike
Thanks, guys, but I'm not confused about adding approved senders.  RingCentral apparently doesn't like SMTP relay.  Even though I can use SMTP relay to send scanned documents to other external senders, the messages to RingCentral are not converted to faxes and don't appear in our logs.  I used credentials of an Office 365 account to send and was successful.

For anyone else having this issue. Make sure the email address is it's own separate email account/email box. (not an alias or shared email).
