SMS: how to download Text messages?

Having the ability to send and receive SMS messages is great.  Furthermore, it has become an integral feature of our business.  RingCentral has the important ability to archive, i.e. download, voice messages and faxes.  However, there appears no way to archive an SMS thread.

Does anyone know if it is currently possible to archive SMS threads via RingCentral functionality or some third party tools?

You may want to check out Zapier.com RingCentral integrates with Zapier and I believe you can build a Zap to archive your text messages to go to a third party application like Evernote, Google Drive etc. Building Zaps are pretty easy to set up and configure.

https://zapier.com/ looks interesting. Perhaps it will work.  Could someone try it and let us know
Yes this approach works. I put the messages into a Google Sheet. Set up the spreadsheet first with To, From, Time and Body and you can have Zapier create a new row for each SMS sent and received. It was very easy to set up. I with the RingCentral API were as easy. I have sending SMS all set up but I have not figured out how to deal with the message store. Zapier will be a good temporary solution.

Would like to have a way to download or archive the Business SMS text messages. I need to be able to access these later.

With some playing, I found a crude workaround.

Open the desktop RingCentral App to the SMS thread.  With a portion of the thread showing, use the Print Screen function of your computer.  You can now save the image through a paint type program or as text using an OCR feature of a PDF program, e.g., Create PDF from Clipboard; Crop to the SMS text; OCR; and Export to Text, not Word.  Repeat for SMS not on the screen.

Creating PDFs from clipboard , OCRing the document, and saving  as text are features of most premium versions of PDF readers.

It seems like many steps.  But it gets faster with practice.

Cheers.
You can just cut and paste the text directly from the app.

Text is not selectable in the App. That's why he is using screen capture, but that's why we need a solution for exporting/saving text messages.

JUST copy and paste?
do you know how many texts I send and receive daily?
I need them for my records, just in case something happened.
I've been using Zapier, I think it is a temporary solution.
I had the same reaction about creating an image and then using OCR. I am able to search with the App. Maybe the recent update is the difference but the search box works fine.

I have only recently begun to use the API. I can send SMS from my desktop app no problem now but I have not learned how to use the message-store to retrieve the replies that I get. Any insight on that would be appreciated.

If you are useing Dropbox, you can connect Dropbox and RingCentral. That's way you record text message. Besides, you can backup many user Ring Central of your company on a Dropbox account (recording include text message, Internet Fax, Recorded call, voice mail).
