RingCentral Meetings: Duplicate meeting participants when dialing in b/c participant code doesn't take

When you join first log into the meeting online, you be prompted with a box like below, and you'll need to select Join by Phone or Join by Computer

When you want to dial in, you'll of course click, "join by phone" When you dial the number, you'll be prompted to enter the Meeting ID and also the Participant ID.  The participant ID is optional. If you do not enter the Participant ID then the system is not able to link the dial-in attendee with the online attendee. 

You'll have to enter the Participant ID so that you don't count as a 2nd attendees.
