Call Handling: forward one extension to another

Right now, the only thing close is being able to forward an extension to an actual phone/device. It would be nice to be able to forward an extension to another extension without having to change any numbers or emails addresses.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled User Settings: forward to an extension.

When a call comes into my extension I need it to simultaneously ring another extension as well as my cell phone and desk phone. I can't use the queue because call flip from cell phone feature doesn't work in the queue. I don't see a way to add the extension in my extension under Call Handling and Forwarding. The extension that I need to add does not have a number tied to it because it's only answered by a softphone on the computer.

I'd like to have this function back. The old system used to allow this but I'm unable to add extensions to Call Handling and Forwarding unless the extension is tied to an ip phone. I need to have an extension that forwards to a cell phone so that I can add that extension to the main extension. This would give the person with the cell phone the ability to turn on and off the calls going to their cell phone. Right now, I have their cell number programmed into my main extension and they have no way of turning off the calls coming to their cell phone unless I go in there and manually turn them on and off everyday.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Forwarding to another extension, it is possible?.

I'm trying to forward calls from one internal extension to another.  Neither of these extensions are attached to a digital line.  Is this possible?  If not, then why?  It seems to be a very basic feature that should be available.

I need to be able to have calls coming into an extension to then ring another extension simultaneously that uses only the app on their phone.  Come on RingCentral. whats the holdup.

I have a support group setup that rings to my support staff's deskphones and their softphones simultaneously. Is this what you are looking to do? If so I can help you

Possibly. I don't want the call to ring the smartphone via their phone number I want it to ring via the RC app that's installed. Is that how you have it set up?

Oh I think I may have misunderstood your post. I have it ring to their deskphone and the softphone on their laptop as you can choose each of those separately. You cannot choose the mobile application on a cell phone :(  The only thing you could do is add the cell phone number itself, which would not receive the call through the RC application but through the native phone dialer app.

Yea I am trying to keep it within the RC infrastructure. Being able to use the RC app I think would be a big help for many.

Any further updates on this?  Looking for the same ... forward calls to another internal extension that is NOT tied to an IP phone, but rather forwards to a mobile number.

I think you are looking for this.... Scroll down the page just a little but futher, then click the link below.  It will let you pick from a list of existing users.

Mike, have you actually tried using that? It does not provide a list of existing users.

So with 15 numbers that I need this feature for, that means I'd have to essentially pay $75/month for this feature? I understand you're trying to help, but this is a very basic feature in companies.

Actually, adding a Direct Phone number to an extension still doesn't allow you to forward to that extension.  I think it might have to a "dedicated user".

One way I've gotten around this is by creating a Calling Group that has the extension of the user I want to forward to.  Then when the original extension 'tumbles' over, it will go to the calling group.  The only downside is that the person in the calling group has to hit '1' to connect (there's another thread on here that complains about that).

mint_md,

I would need to look at your account to see specifically what is going on, but it should work.  I you want to create a new private post and include the specific account and user details, I'll take a look. I'm seeing more than one account linked to your email address so am not sure which one to view.

Also, yes, creating a group does provide a work-around, but has limited functionality.

How would I create a private post? Can you email me at the address on file?

I think this only works if you have RingCentral users. If you want to forward the number to an extension that then forwards to a mobile or home number, then it won't work.

I also need this feature - my situation is that sometimes I need to forward all calls going to one user to be forwarded to a different extension so that they handle it or take a voice message at the secondary extension.  Unless a phone number is assigned to the secondary extension then this cannot be done easily - yes it can be done using a fake group and some advanced rule, but this is a work-around and very hard to maintain.

I would also like to have this feature (back) I was a user of RC 5 years ago, and I swear this was possible. In our situation the routing is:
1. Adam at ext 101
he has a cell and a home phone
2. Betty at 102
she has a cell and a home phone
3. Charlie at 103
has a cell and a home phone

Flow
A. Ring Adam and Betty at the same time for 20 seconds
B. Ring Charlie by himself for 20 seconds
C. Ring all three of them for 20 more seconds
D. Voicemail

Allowing me to forward to an extention, instead of a 10 digit number would let this happen.

I am 'new' here. How do we get suggestions (with multiple people) turned into features?

Mark,

I have been a RIngCentral customer for over six years (and a partner/reseller for three years) and I have never known this to work the way you stated above. Additionally, you have not been able to, and still cannot, forward to an extension.

> How do we get suggestions (with multiple people) turned into features?
Simply vote for this in the upper right corner of the entire  topic and the development staff reviews, not only all requests for features, but also prioritizes many of them based on the number of votes they receive from the community.

hopefully this hasn't brought up already, but i'm pretty sure every user needs an extension to be able to operate fully (i.e. dialing out and such) so maybe that would limit that function as well, otherwise people would just buy the 1 user with a number and add extensions with no numbers and ringcentral would never make money.

Chris if by Extension, you mean Digital Line then yes. You won't have full calling capabilities without this. And yes, the DLs do affect the individual plan pricing for the reason you mentioned.

Upon receiving call on an extension, need to forward call to another extension. Neither of these extensions are attached to a digital line.

Being able to forward an extension to another extension is a huge need. When people go on vacation or leave the organization it would be very helpful.
