Forward Company Number to External Number

It would be beneficial to allow a company number to forward directly to an external number without having to attach it to a digital line or messing with call handling settings.

For example, we have an 866 number that we use on our marketing materials, however, when a customer calls that number it just forwards the call to another 800 number for one of our vendors.

We'd like to be able to setup that forward directly from the Company Phone Numbers page in RC instead of attaching the 866 number to a line, then configuring the forward. See the attached image for what I'm referring to.

This would greatly simplify forwarding for numbers that we own but don't need to receive calls on (we have several). Also, helps reduce costs associated with having a separate digital line for each number.

Request is to add a Forward option in the above example. So instead of having the number go to the Auto-Receptionist, or to an extension, just have it forward to an outside number.

As soon as you want to forward the number, you are then wanting to manage how it being handled.  All handling and routing of calls is performed through the programming of an extension, so you would have to connect your number to an extension.

You do not need to setup the extension with a digital line and save on the cost, but you will be charged the equivalent cost as a digital line for each month that you forward more than 9 calls to any external number (is will be considered a mobile user and auto-charged).   However, we use this setup without purchasing digital lines because we have several months each year that we receive less than 10 calls that need to be forwarded and those months we don't get charged, so there is some cost savings this way.

Hi Michael,

My point is that I DONT want to manage it. Once it's forwarded, it's not up to us to handle it. Perhaps I'm missing your point?

I second this feature request. We encounter it most frequently with after hours answering services. With every other hosted provider I've encountered forwarding a number to another number isn't a big deal at all.

I guess my assumption is that if I own and publish a number, then I need to handle all calls coming through it.   If you don't want to manage or handle it, then maybe either:
- publish the vendor's 800 number instead and don't forward any calls
- purchase an 800 number through a landline carrier and have them program a permanent call forwarding on it. (paying a landline carrier to program it instead of you programming it, forwarding calls has to be programmed somewhere for it to work)

I see how that's a bit counterintuitive. Publishing the vendor's number is not an option, and we already own the 866 number that's available to all of our customers on virtually all of our materials. We need to control that 866 number in terms of ownership, but simply need it to forward to our vendor. No need to call handling, after hours or any of that, just a straight forward.

We use RC as our primary phone system, and don't want to get involved with landline providers.

Not to mention a landline provider would cost more than what RC is charging for the line to forward it...

If you want to take advantage of RC rates, then I would recommend:
- connect it to an extension without a digital line
- turn off all "Screening, Greeting & Hold Music" options
- forward the call to your external 800 number, setting number of rings to 15
- turn off "Messages" so that voicemail does not get triggered.
