I have found no work around for this problem. I would like for the Chrome extension to "detect" that I am currently on a call, and that it should not ring for a new call because it will interrupt my ongoing conversation.

Can you provide more details?  IT sounds like you are using more than one VoIP application. Can you provide specifics so we can have this reviewed, and perhaps submit as a feature request?

I am only using the Ringcentral Chrome extension.

Let's say I just called someone or just answered a call using the RC chrome extension in Gmail, I'm having a conversation, and someone else calls my extension or direct number. The Chrome extension will start to ring, alerting me that there is another incoming call. The problem is that the ringing occurs over the ongoing conversation. I have to ask callers to repeat themselves when we get interrupted, or if I'm using the speakers on my laptop, then end up hearing the ringing as well.

Thanks for the clarification.  I'll switch this topic to an "idea" so it gets reviewed by our product team.

It would be nice to be able to silence the ringer on a per call basis or permanently under settings. When I'm (or my users are) sitting at their desks it's a little nerve racking to have your computer ringing and your desk phone ringing. Logging out is an option but a bit of a pain if you use click to dial a lot.

Agreed! The idea of having Ring Central right inside Google Mail is great... but the execution seems so poorly thought out.
