I was told by a service rep that I have to call the manufacturer of my modem and router to change the protocols so the softphone will work. Has anyone else been able to connect with the manufacturer to do this?
Which manufacturer, in particular, are you referring to? There are so many different router and modem manufacturers in the marketplace and there are many different makes and models for each manufacturer. I'm sure that if you did a survey of all the users here in the forums you would come up with literally thousands of different router and/or modem combinations.
