I'm using Apple Airpods. Whenever I get a RingCentral message on my computer the volume spikes and is distorted.

Any clue?

Can you be more specific?  An alert tone, a voicemail message or?  Is it a sound coming from the desktop app for Mac?

I'm listening to music. I'll get a message from RC and the music with get very loud and distorted for about 3 seconds.

Interesting.  I use a Mac, but have no AirPods to test with.  I don't notice this with wired headphones that I typically use.  Do you have any other bluetooth headset or speakers you could pair and try to compare?  You might be able to narrow it down to an issue with the headset, bluetooth functionality or the RC app.

Do you have the mobile RC app and could try while using the AirPods?

Probably the AirPods then. I don't have other bluetooth headphones but I will try with the mobile app.

Thanks for your help.

Sure, I would tend to agree,  I read the AirPods do some fancy, proprietary stuff with their Bluetooth implementation to reduce power consumption and a theory is that may only apply to iPhone and Watch and maybe not Macs.

My AirPods work fine with El Capitan on my MacBook for iTunes, etc.  But in both RingCentral and Zoom (which seems to share the same code) the volume is very loud (it distorts even on the lowest possible volume setting in Preferences) and I hear intermittent buzzes and pops while either of those apps is running.  Quite alarming, and makes me worry that I'm damaging the AirPods.

I will try the mobile equivalents from my iPhone for my next meetings.
