US based construction office setting.

I currently have my call handling set to first ring my desk phone and then my cell phone if I am away from my desk.  Currently if I set my desk phone to DND or Ignore an incoming call on my desk phone, the call handling rules continue to send the call to my cell phone which is usually sitting right next to my desk phone.  In this situation, even though my desk phone is set to DND or I pressed Ignore, my cell phone rings and I then have to ignore the call on my cell phone as well.  This can be annoying when you are having a meeting in your office.  I know that I can temporarily disable the call handling to my cell, but that seems a bit cumbersome to have to turn it off and back on all the time.

It would be nice to have the option to automatically suspend the call handling rule if the desk phone is set to DND or if the Ignore button is pressed on the desk phone.  This might be as simple as some minor programming and a couple of check boxes on the User>Call Handling screen that suspends call handling if the DND or the Ignore is utilized on the desk phone.

Steve - Would you be interested in using the Smartphone App - that way you don't have to forward the calls to your cell phone carrier and the app will follow the DND rules.

Hey Kim - I started out using the smartphone app and am not necessarily opposed to using it BUT the app seemed to use a lot of battery (almost 20%) so I shut it off.  If a solution could be devised that did not require the use of the smartphone app, that would be best - OR - make the app more energy efficient so I would be more inclined to use it.

Kim - I just noticed that your response only included DND in regards to the smartphone app.  Does Ignore also work if using the app?

Steve- Ignore is on the Desktop App/Hardphone and that will send it to the next device.  You will want to us Voicemail (red option below) if DND is not ON.

Have you tried setting DND for your extension using the desktop app?  Not sure what type of desk phone you have, but in our case (Polycom VVX500), turning on DND using the phone isn't recognized by RingCentral.  Instead, it's pretty much saying "don't ring this phone".

Due to the way this works, this also means that your DND presence status isn't registered for other users to see.  The only way for other users to tell who's available or on DND is by changing your presence setting on the desktop app.  Furthermore, turning on DND using the desktop app should accomplish what you want: no calls will come through to your extension, period.
