Inbound Fax Issue: Client reports "phone ringing"

We have a client with a fax machine who has been attempting to send faxes to several of our direct numbers. He says that he hears a phone ringing, and we don't receive the fax. Any ideas? I can try to get the model of the machine he has but I don't want to bother him too much.

You'll want to find out exactly which numbers they are faxing then check the web portal to see if those numbers are set up as Voice Only. 

Go to Phones & Numbers, click on the number and look for this drop-down.  Then (2nd image) look to see if it's set to "Voice Only".
