IVR answers with no rings first

We have been happy since we set up our IVR system, but do find it odd that when clients call us it doesn't ring first but goes right away to our announcement and they have to make a key press.  A lot of time people hang up and call back and I think that may be because of the surprise of getting an announcement without a couple of rings first.  Is that able to be set somewhere and I just haven't found it?

Hi Mel, right now that's how IVRs operate....could you expound on what you want your call flow to look like? What is the purpose of your current IVR?

I'm happy with the rest of the set up, we have it routed to either of the two of us and neutral voicemail (if they don't know which one they want to talk to.)

What is weird  (especially our older clients, we live in a retirement area) is the fact that they dial and get an announcement without hearing any rings on their end before they are urged to choose a key to press.

Oh I see! Sorry, I misread your question. There is no separate setting for that. It's actually quite common for calls to a company that has a Multi-Level IVR system to not "ring".
