RingCentral Meetings: Make the chime notification a default setting

1. Account type: U.S.
2. Business is a File-Management for Enterprise
3. We would like to make the "chime when attendees enter/exit meeting" default for all meeting types.
4. Sometimes we have customers that do not have the ability to join a video meeting with video or to take part in a meeting with anything but audio.
5. This way we could be notified when anyone joins/leaves the meeting for any reason at any time.

I agree but think this should be a setting that can be set by the user globally or by meeting.

I agree with you. We should have an option to set this depending whether it's used globally or by meeting.

I believe that the RingCentral Meetings app is white labeled by Zoom.  Any chance they can chime in here?

We recently switched to Ring Central. If we have one meeting where the customer is on the call and we don't know it because there was no chime the boss will make us switch providers. It is imperative that chimes on for phone or video is turned on as the default.

This is imperative to our organization as well. It seems like a very simple concept? Not sure how it has been overlooked.

This is really a show stopper for most companies and needs to be addressed ASAP. We have been using this service for over 2 years and have always been able to rely on a great product and great service. However this CHANGE is not acceptable and could actually cause harm to my users business as you can have uninvited or at least unknown guest on your call. Many of my customers use this application while on the road and dial in only so the current work around is just not possibly. Thanks

Most wanted feature by my sales and PM staff. This is sorely missed coming from WebEx.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Ability to turn on entry and exit chimes in RingCentral Meetings.

1) Account Type: U.S.

2) Business Description: Construction Management Firm - Owners Representative for Construction

3) High Level Description: Be able to default entry and exit chimes for all users in the organization using RingCentral Meetings. Instead of instructing users to enable on a call by call basis.

4) Use Case: We frequently have the issue where any party may make negative comments about another party joining a call as they have not yet joined yet. Entry and Exit tones help prevent this from becoming an issue.

5) Feature Benefit: Mitigating risk of insulting other parties on a conference call

6) Current Ongoing Case No.: 05662551

7) No. of Users: 32

None of the numerous conference apps I've used have ever had a "stealth join" capability. Why would anyone ever want this? It has been disconcerting a few times on meetings where I say, "As soon as so-and-so joins we'll get started," to which I hear, "I'm here," from so-and-so. Un-intuitive and potentially the cause of some embarrassment or worse, particularly for those who re-use meetings which don't require a password. In this case, a totally unexpected/uninvited attendee could potentially stealth in and listen to the meeting until noticed in the participant list.

How is this still an issue? This is basic functionality that should be manageable for all meetings, not just on a per case basis and only in the desktop application.

Hello Everyone,

I've confirmed with our Product team that this feature is on the roadmap but I don't have an ETA at the moment.

This is pretty embarrassing for RingCentral. We've been using RingCentral for almost two years and have accounts for every employee across our entire company. One day the entry/exit chime just stopped working and nobody could figure out why.

I used to think RingCentral was an innovative company that listened to it's users and was constantly releasing new, solid features but whoever decided to change this chime feature has clearly never hosted a conference call in their entire lives. If I were to list requirements for a conference line, this would be among the first and most basic requirements. Moreover, the fact that their customers have been up in arms since last December and they still haven't committed to fixing this speaks volumes about the company and is leading us to start looking into other providers that wouldn't make such a careless mistake.

I'm glad I found this while we are still in our evaluation period.  To a person, everyone on our sales team and SE team find this a show stopper.

Thanks for your feedback!  We are planing to release a new feature: Meetings Settings in late Dec to early Jan.  After that, user can configure that whether play sound on join/leave in service web.  Please wait for us!

I'm sorry, why does this only say "user can configure" and not "administrator can configure"? This needs to be a master template item with the option for the administrator to lock out the user from changing the setting. This would actually be an item that would conflict with corporate policy in many cases, because it helps to protect parties from making bad decisions on conference calls. Please clarify further.

This is absolutely essential, and users must be able to turn this setting on ONCE in a global manner without having to enable/toggle anything for each meeting. Many users utilize the phone function without logging into the meeting.

A year later and people are still requesting this. How is this not been added back to the service? Instead I continue to get emails about updated/new useless features.....

Looks like RC finally listened! I need to test this more, but it looks like you can enable the entry/exit chime by default again through the web interface: RingCentral Meetings: Configuring the Host's Meetings Settings

While this user configurable option is finally available. I do agree with AJ Protteau's comment above, this SHOULD be a setting that can be configured by the admin globally to all users.

Ring Central hasn't updated this thread but just so everyone is aware, they recently released a feature that allows you each user to set a default setting. I still think the default should be enabled instead of disable but this is at least much better than it was before where you had to set turn it on each time you started a new meeting.

Official Response
Thanks, Roman!

Yes, you can now set it so that, by default, your meetings will have a notification when people join/leave the meeting. Below is a screen shot of the settings from a User's perspective. Admins can also access this via the online portal:
