I am extremely happy that you have added SMS/text messaging ability to your system. It was one of the things I was waiting for. But since I have signed up I've found that customers try to send me MMS/picture messages. This is usually to aid in solving a problem or questions.

While I know none of the other competing products have this either I think this would be a great offering to differentiate you from the pack. In another forum I cam across a suggestion of having the picture being sent to the users email instead of the normal route. I know a lot of people that use MMS daily on their mobile phones and since I'm using my Ring Central number as my main one for customers it does kind of lack that feature. I have to then give out my cell phone number for them to send me the picture. A couple of times I didn't even know that they tried to send me a picture. Please consider this option.

Given the frustrations out here on the forums, myself included. I wanted to let everyone that I have participated in some research studies and aware that RC is actively working on this MMS feature.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Ability to send photos through RingCentral App.

Being able to send photos through the RingCentralk mobile app would be a great addition to the tool belt i think. The app would then almost totally function as a 2nd phone for customers. A client of mine needs photos sent to them from scenes of accidents and if a person could simply text it instead of having to email a photo it would be just another way for RingCentral to have a leg up on the competition. I realize people can send photos through glip but telling a customer of theirs to sign up for glip is not exactly the best idea in my opinion. Who's with me?!?!?!

I find it absolutely ridiculous that MMS isn't supported. I just moved to RingCentral, and am stuck now using RingCentral texting instead of my other 3rd party ZipWhip that I was using.  I was told that RingCentral does MMS messaging, which apparently is a lie. I was also told that texting directly to my ported number where multiple users can see the texts is not an issue, which was also a lie.

For an "ahead of the times" company, they sure are seeming quite behind.

We send out about 12,000 texts messages a month, therefore all of my employees have to log on to my main account to send and receive the text messages, I just have to trust them all with this access. RC says that there should only be one computer logged on to an account at a time due to syncing the messages. I have had to take my chances on having multiple and not have a message or two in sync as opposed to someone missing an important response.

Yeah. That's pretty much how I'm going to have to do it. I'm a small business, currently with 3 RC phones, upgrading to about 8 soon... And I've basically had to go against every single password security policy I've had my 20 years in IT.

It sounds like the sales rep you dealt with my have been misinformed, you can try and use the glip service ringcentral offers. It might give a little more help for file shareing / picture sending.

sending isn't my main issue. Receiving MMS is.  I have customers that need to send me pictures of damages to their property.

According to everything written in these forums regarding MMS functionality, it is supposed to be functional in the 2nd quarter of 2017. Now whether this means the beginning of April or the end of June is unknown. I'm just giving you information based on what has been written by more than one RingCentral employee.

Maybe an email address for property damage where all employees have access would be a work around until ringcentral can get this option implemented? Just trying to give ideas and options that may help.

I tested today sending myself a picture via text. Although the picture did not come through I did receive a blank text so if I ever get something like this again I can at least contact them to let them know it didn't come through. not sure it if this will happen for anybody else or not. Worth a test. At least you will know someone tried to send something.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Feature Request: add picture image text capabilities via text msg / SMS.

Being able to send and receive picture image text message / sms is an idea that I'm surprised has yet to be implemented to our RingCentral Account. I am always in need of sending and receiving of pictures via text message.. its important to get this done through out RingCentral line so with the ability to mask our phone number to display our main business line when sending said image picture texts. Its difficult having to always tell clients to send me pictures via email or I having to do that when people these days expect our cell phones to do that feature automatically it makes it look like we're still in the stone age days...... please get this feature going!

"This feature is coming soon. Thanks for your patience!"
This same generic message is getting old.
Maybe an idea of what constitutes "soon"? A matter of weeks? Months maybe? Maybe up to a Year? Any response other than "soon" would be ideal, since this has been a feature request for 3 years and it's freakin' 2017. Even Dialpad - with their limited feature set - offered MMS right out of the gate. AND, with no delay in having to go through "setting up" a line to accept/send MMS messages.

Intrep,

While it will be nice when Group MMS will be supported from a sending point of view, at least from a receiving point of view you will be able to see the pictures you state that folks are sending to you.

I don't disagree Jan, but as the recipient of group texts that contain pictures, it would be nice if full functionality were included in such a long-awaited feature.

I fully understand. I just didn't imagine many business individuals would be receiving group MMS messages. I would imagine that most text messages (SMS or MMS), at least in my experiences with clients and others, are received as individual messages.

Obviously there are exceptions to all situations and you are one who receives group MMS messages. Hopefully RingCentral will also implement Group MMS business messages functionality soon after the Business MMS functionality.

We can support Group MMS in the future, just not right now :)  the main focus was getting you guys ability to send/receive picture messages as quickly as humanly possible.

So now that the MMS/pictures feature is implemented, the second part that's missing is SMS templates / auto-reply functionality.  Please vote here

Official Response
Fantastic news everyone.  The RingCentral Mobile app v9.1.0 was released and contains MMS functionality for limited release.

Customers interested in getting an early look at MMS can request access by sending a feedback email from within the app.  To send feedback, tap your profile icon, tap About  and select Send Feedback and include your MMS request in the body of the message.  Access will be added within two business days.

In the coming weeks, the MMS capability will be generally available on both RingCentral Mobile Apps and RingCentral for Desktop apps.

Should we expect to see this feature soon? I own a real estate group and made the change of our main contact number from an iPhone to our main Ring Central number. We are constantly requested to send pictures and receive pictures. Please keep us updated! Thank you!

Bill and Jauvarie,  Can you both of you tell us if your account is with RingCentral Direct?  Or is it through one of our Resellers such as AT&T?  Also, what is your location.  Geographic location can make a difference if/when the new app is rolled out.
