I am extremely happy that you have added SMS/text messaging ability to your system. It was one of the things I was waiting for. But since I have signed up I've found that customers try to send me MMS/picture messages. This is usually to aid in solving a problem or questions.

While I know none of the other competing products have this either I think this would be a great offering to differentiate you from the pack. In another forum I cam across a suggestion of having the picture being sent to the users email instead of the normal route. I know a lot of people that use MMS daily on their mobile phones and since I'm using my Ring Central number as my main one for customers it does kind of lack that feature. I have to then give out my cell phone number for them to send me the picture. A couple of times I didn't even know that they tried to send me a picture. Please consider this option.

We would love to have this. My wife wants to be able to send pictures of her client's eye glasses when their order comes in via text message.  For now she has to send from a separate cell phone, which is a horrible customer presentation compared to the rest of our phone presence.

Ring Central..can we get some kind of response to this request? Obviously there is no intention of doing this, this thread is being ignored by Ring Central. Maybe once a competitor offers it, they will come around. We can keep hoping...

Has there been an updates on this?   I am sure if more people knew how to comment here the general public would see this as a much needed feature and there would be more comments.  I have people using my person number to send pictures over and then trying to call me back on it instead of the office.   Even google can provide MMS with there phone numbers.  When a MMS comes in it comes in as an email which would be perfectly fine.

Anthony,

There is no update on this.  Advice customers to please VOTE the idea so we can push for this in a future development.

We've only been on this system two weeks and were quite excited to goto the "one number" concept since SMS and Call Handling allowed us to only give our direct extension. Like others this is becoming a shortcoming of Business SMS.

The name seems to imply MMS is just for recreation.  Far from the truth.  We send screen grabs, graphic suggestions and more as part of our business usage of texting.  It is quick and efficient.  I don't want to have to go through the keyboard gymnastics of sending a fax to accomplish the same thing.  Talk about a deprecated technology.  I haven't sent or received a fax in a half-dozen years... Yet that is richly supported in a day when scanning and emailing any document is faster and easier.

So my TWO THUMBS UP for MMS capability.  Keep this community push going.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Pictures via Text Message.

This 100% needs to be a feature! Dealing with customers via text message and there is an absolute need to send/receive pictures via text message. We're currently needing to still give out personal cell numbers to make ends meet which defeats the purpose of the text messaging service via RingCentral.

I'm sure I'm not the only one - HELP! Thanks :)

More importantly when customers mms your RC number it doesn't give the customer a rejected message so the customer thinks you got the message. .. it has lost me a few deals. Google voice (free service) has it. Please step up to the times and add mms and spell check for the desktop soft phone sms. Thanks

This is a MAJOR feature omission.  As said above, the lack of MMS is a deal breaker.  By providing SMS capability people/clients assume they can also group message the same number, as all modern day devices can....  It would quite frankly make more sense to not offer any text messaging as apposed to only supporting SMS.  Please update this feature to bring your Messaging up to the level w/ the rest of Ring Central's platform.

Agreed, I am evaluating several outside services that offer both. Lucky for RingCentral these services are for SMS/MMS Only because if they had VOIP they would have had my entire companies business months ago. I know several other RC Customers I am in a mastermind with that are desperately seeking this solution as well. I so desperately need a one number solution for my sales teams!!!

This issue is killing me. The biggest problem is that people send mms messages and expect that I received it. There's no notification to them that "this user can't receive photos". Instead it only comes up if there's some conflict that makes it clear I never received some of the messages that were sent to me.
Customer: "I sent you that days ago"
Me: "oh I'm not seeing that text message"
Customer: "ok... Let me resend it. Done"
Me: "hmm, still nothing. Oh wait, it's not a photo is it?"
Customer: "yeah, why?"
Me: "oh sorry, I can't receive photos at this number. Let me have you use another # or email"
Customer: "ok. That's fine. Strange though, my grandma can receive photos I text to her"

Then, I'll start receiving texts at the new number (my cell). Clearly this breakdown in communication and support workflow is not ideal and causes awkward and unnecessary miscommunications.

Photos in text messages have become a standard and it's unreasonable to expect that someone capable of receiving a text message can't send or receive a photo.

Please help.

Agreed, this makes me sick to think about the business I have lost. You just reminded me of how subscribing to an outside service will be worth it because if I lose one customer or one referral partner it costs me big $$$$$!

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled mms.

I strongly feel mms is a very important feature in today's tech world.  So why is ringcentral not looking into this?  Is it because it is expensive or the platform for ringcentral is not up to the standard?  Also why cannot the sender of mms get notification that the mms did not go through?

I commented on that thread. We really need a status on MMS in Ring Central. Is it being ignored because somehow Glip does it better? If so, we need to know that. Is it using MMS standards that will be supported by all providers? I signed up for Glip and can't figure out how I'd use it for MMS without getting my customers a login which I 100% can not do. I need to be able to receive a MMS to my RC # without previously having interacted via phone/text with that person.

@Mike, Google Hangouts offers both SMS/MMS capability, and they are also a cloud based phone system. Aside from the obvious differences this shows that integrating the SMS & MMS feature is feasible. I am using the mobile apps exclusively for my company which provides us the flexibility we need from our phone system, and RC does this exceptionally well, aside from this one omission. Quite frankly if this feature continues to be ignored I will start shopping for another system. Here 2015 it is widely assumed that EVERYONE has MMS cabability (if you are already sending SMS messages), and RingCentral is putting us in a difficult position.

This is absolutely correct. MMS is such basic functionality that it's ridiculous that it even has to be discussed. How silly is it to have to tell someone with whom you are communicating that you cannot receive a picture via text? It's ridiculous and embarrassing. I work in construction, and it is very common for someone to send me a text with a picture, or to request that I send them a picture of something via text. Not only is it ridiculous that it's a major point of discussion, it's even more ridiculous that it has taken so long to receive the attention from RingCentral that it deserves. I would think that RingCentral is supposed to be advanced tech, not bare bones yesterday's tech.

Agreed... I am also a Salesforce User and I am currently using Textey as an integration into my system. It is NOT a VOIP product, but a stand alone SMS & MMS service. Unfortunately this is not a SINGLE number solution, but they do have it built in that anyone that calls the number through their service can be directed to your RC or Alt #. This is at best a 2 Number Solution, which just makes it semi old fashion as you could treat this number as your Mobile, and your RC as your office. Now big question here would be, can you turn off your RC number from getting any Text/SMS.

Another service I am looking at is Heywire which is now owned by Salesforce. They have two services that will even allow you to use your exiting landline number with their service, which allows continuity of branding.  I am currently working to see if they can use my RC line as this would then be a true SINGLE number solution. RC Better hope these guys don't get into the VOIP biz as their services is slick and I personally text AS MUCH as I speak with my clients.

I text 15,000 messages a month to 100 different Doctors and I am now looking for a more reliable service, I bill per message sent and they do not even have a report that you can run to show how many messages you have texted.

Just so y'all know I'm going on a hunger strike until we get a decent response from RC on this issue. I had a breakfast taco this morning, but starting now! I'm getting hungry for lunch, but my will is strong.

I'll still be drinking water and taking a multivitamin, but I'm already pretty skinny. I don't think I'll last long before I start wasting away.

Who will join me?

Started to roll out.  Right now, if you have notifications sent to your email for SMS, you'll get the picture.  But you can't send/receive via the mobile APP until mid month / and end of the month for RC4W.

Very Funny Ryan! Count me in! But all kidding aside...

RingCentral: your customers are asking very pointed questions about a critical breakdown in your software that is negatively affecting our business!!! I was directed by tech support to this forum as the way to communicate new ideas... yet we cannot get a response. Step up to the plate RingCentral or I will be looking for other options.

- Previously happy customer.

I take requirements from my customers too and had hoped that someone would appreciate the drastic measures I'm willing to go to. lol. Requirements are just that. It doesn't mean they need to be implemented, but they are required for users to use a particular feature (remain a customer). I almost feel like this issue should be recategorized as a Bug instead of an Idea. 'Hey, I have an idea. It's not like every other provider offering SMS doesn't have it, but it's just an idea. Hear me out. Make the text messaging service work.' I don't mean to be silly or sarcastic, but I'm going to do what I can to keep the heat on this. I'll describe in detail (maybe even a word for word transcript) the next time this issue comes up and makes me look ridiculous in front of my customers.

I was happy with RC before they offered SMS. I still am happy with them, but since switching business SMS to the Ring Central lines, it's obvious that the failure to include MMS is a glaring oversight. I would be happy to use a different service for SMS/MMS altogether. But text messaging as a feature is broken and we need an answer. RC's offering is worse than text messaging in 2002. I was better off giving my customers my cell phone number. Google Voice/Hangouts is a very good alternative at this point. It lacks business collaboration features, but nails a seamless text messaging process.

We at least need a reasonable response as to why RC is not prioritizing this issue. It's not a technical challenge obviously. It's just a priority issue. They could knock this out in a single sprint cycle for the core product, maybe another each for the iOS and desktop clients. I don't know what their development processes are like, but unless their SMS was built so poorly that it can't be improved upon, this needs to get solved ASAP. And if their foundation for SMS is so shoddy that it needs completely rewritten, I'm willing to accept that and eagerly await however long it takes to get it done...

Sorry if I'm rambling.

I feel your pain Ryan! I keep finding new ways to re-explain the same issue, as is everyone else in this forum. I would call this a BROKEN feature. Having SMS without MMS ability in 2015 is a negative feature, plain and simple. I am at a loss of how to wake RingCentral up to this point. (so here I am trying to be the squeaky wheel)

Could definitely use this. At this point we have signed up for Mightytext, and don't really use RC's SMS feature anymore. It doesn't make sense to have to sign up for two different services, just so that we can have a feature that our customers and drivers almost always assume we have. RC's SMS feature slows us down and costs us money in more ways than one. Missing messages, dealing with issues behind schedule, explaining to customers or drivers that "we can't do that", or "Let me give you this other number to text". Also, the cost of the actual service, and now the cost of mightytext.

Overall, not an ideal situation we have here.

In summary: BUMP. Ringcentral, please work on this.

Android app is extremely useful, but not absolutely necessary. Our staff usually just keeps a second browser tab on the mightytext interface. Check this site: http://mightytext.net/-send-mms If you aren't signed in, navigating this shows you youtube videos on how to use the features.

Even just some indication of whether we are waiting  6 months, a year, or 18 months for this feature would be nice. I use my cell phone in my business far more than I want to and this feature is the main reason for that. I should be able to use Ring Central as my primary phone but can't since it generates picture text messages which I never get.

A very common complaint on this thread. I know that the technology behind MMS is quite different than the technology behind SMS, so I understand why it wasn't launched initially. That said, the SMS feature has been out long enough that a graduation to MMS ability should be reasonable at this point. It sure would be nice to have an official response to this feature request!
