Caller ID: Outbound Fax to be set to always show "Company Fax Number"

We used to be able to send efaxes with all company numbers as a caller ID. Now we only have an option to use the "company main number" or our particular extension number. The "company fax number" is not even an option anymore. Does that make sense to anyone???  Please fix this so my staff can send outbound faxes with the company fax number as the caller ID. Thank you!

I can set the outbound fax ID to "Fax Number" for users that have a direct number but not for other extensions. Our Operator extension, which is run via the desktop app and has no direct number, only shows "Main Number", "Additional Number", and "Blocked" as caller ID options for Fax Number.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Custom Fax Cover Page for Email Faxing.

I would like to be able to modify the information sent via the fax cover pages used when using the fax by email feature. Specifically, I don't want extension numbers going out with the main line number as this overrides our preferred call handling options.

I would also like to be able to send the fax as from the "Company Only" as opposed to from a particular individual when appropriate. Currently the only option RC offers in this area is for us to use a blank page cover page or don't use any cover page and create your own with each faxed document. This seems somewhat ridiculous to me. Given all the options available for answering calls, it seems one should be able to control the information released via faxes, especially when there's the potential for callers to circumvent a user's preferred call answering methods with the information provided.

Ring Central, there are two problems I see here:
1. Why was this thread merged and NOT ANSWERED?
2. Why was this thread merged with another thread that is TWO YEARS OLD AND NOT ANSWERED?

Does anyone else see that this is a problem or is it just me?  At the very least someone from Ring Central should be answering these questions, right?  I realize that I'm new here, but I would think that this should be relatively easy to fix considering how elaborate the system as a whole is.

Hello HighVoltage

Welcome to the Community!

I'll be happy to explain.  A couple years ago RingCentral released a new version of the softphone.   When the new version was released it did not have all the same features as the old Legacy softphone.  So, for approximately a year or so, we supported both versions and users could use whichever system they preferred.

Over time, our Product Team added more and more of the most requested features back into the new softphone (which we now  refer to as RingCentral for Desktop). This is one feature that has not been added back.

I'm not sure if you've noticed since you stated you are new here, but most of the topics users post here on the Community are submitted as either Questions, or Ideas.   This particular thread is an "Idea" topic.  This is one of the methods/sources that our Product Team uses to gather interest from customers as they decided on what additional features to add.

If you look at the top of this page, you'll see a "Vote" button, which you can click on. We encourage all users who would like to see this feature added, to please click the vote button and of course comment. This helps our Product Team prioritize projects.

When two or more submissions for the same idea/feature request, are submitted, we merge the two topics into one so that it combines the vote count and raises more awareness.

I hope this helps.

Hi Mike,

Thank you for the clarification.

I realize that there are not a lot of "votes" for this topic, but if other RC users are like most of the people in my office (and me up until yesterday), they are not coming here at all and are just stewing in their frustrations that the system has yet another illogical limitation.  Is it really that hard to put this option into the software?

Thanks,
Eric

I can't say that it's necessarily complicated, but it's more of an issue of prioritization.  We receive hundreds of requests here on the Community, through the "send product feedback" tool built into the desktop application, as well as telephone, chat, and support cases.  All of this data is analyzed and reviewed and then prioritized.

Our Product Team pushes out new releases every 2-3 months on a pretty regular schedule. But, since we receive hundreds of feature requests, it's only feasible to include a small % of all those requests.

Also, the more information that customers include in their feature request, the more likely it is to get greater consideration.  When submitting a feature request here on the Community we strongly encourage users to use the following format and include as much detail and information as possible/applicable.

To help our Product Team understand your request and assure it gets more consideration, please include the following details in your request:
  1. Account type  (U.S., Canada, UK,  AT&T, Telus, BT)
  2. A brief description of the business
  3. A high level description of the product or feature being requested
  4. A typical use case scenario explaining how your business would use the feature
  5. Benefit of such feature
  6. Include any related case number if applicable

I do not know why my feature request got merged here. We own 90 different RingCentral numbers for the 50 different states we operate in. We dial out to our clients with one of the numbers corresponding to our clients state. When we fax documents to or on behalf of our clients, we want to be able to choose from one of these various numbers, as the fax number called ID when faxing out. Right now we are limited on the soft phone, to only using our direct line. We want the ability to use any one of our company numbers as that outgoing fax caller ID

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Ability to use any fax # in account as Outbound FaxCaller ID.

We need to be able to select any Fax # we own through RingCentral from an Outbound FAX Caller ID drop down when composing a FAX, just like it allows you to for Dialing Out on the Dial Pad currently.

Aaron, we frequently merge same/similar feature requests together which combines votes and provides more visibility to our Product Team.

With so many issues revolving around this same or similar topics in the forum, I'm not sure how this hasn't been resolved yet. Its outrageous that you're unable to essentially customize the fax outgoing number to separate numbers from your main company line or use an external pre-existing phone number as your outgoing fax line number. This is such a pain! Basically it forces us to have to use the soft phone application on desktop windows computers and edit every single user's merge document template cover sheet to bypass the merge field for company fax and manually enter in our fax number. Not so bad for 10 or so employees, but imagine 5000.

Commenting to ensure our vote is on this band wagon. There should be an option to show only a company fax number on the outgoing fax ccid and fax cover page.

The whole fax function needs to be revamped.  Amazingly it is still a key business function for mortgage companies (and others I am sure).  With RingCentral pitching Unified Communications as a single number for all your needs, it baffles me that there is not more control over this type of function. We actually have the opposite need as the original poster, as our faxes ONLY show the fax number as the main company fax number, regardless of the user's setting for Caller ID.  The only way we have found to change this is to create a custom fax cover page for use in the RingCentral Desktop app that eliminates the cover page listing for fax number and lists their number as "Phone/Fax: (xxx)xxx-xxxx" where that number is their direct number.  This should either be a profile setting in the portal, in the desktop and/or mobile app, or all of the above.  Somewhere I have an idea out there to give this type of control to the user and/or the admin, but it's not merged here.  Will have to find it and add a pointer.
