1. Account type: US
2. Brief description of business: insurance agency
3. Description of feature: I have contacts who have 10-digit numbers AND extension numbers. I would like to be able to click the Call button from a contact's record in my Softphone app, and the app would dial the 10-digit number, wait (using a comma for a 1-second pause), then dial the extension number. I tested this just now based on info in another post and it did NOT work.
4. Typical usage: I have a contact whose number is (888) 555-1234, extension 4. I'd like to be able to select this contact in the Softphone and click the Call button, and have the app dial (888) 555-1234, pause for a second or two, and then dial 4. I suggest setting up the contact's phone-number string like this: (888) 555-1234,4
5. Benefit: if the contact stores the phone number, I'd rather not have to dial the extension manually--especially if I'm in the car.
6. Case number: I submitted a question under number 07347173 this morning and was told this feature is not available.
7. Number of users: you can look up my account.

I agree this is helpful on contacts for IT staff when they have to call for service with the automated attendants.

Hey Brian,

You can call a contact with a 10 digit number followed by their extension number on the softphone. When you add them as a Contact, you will put a *(star) instead of a comma (,)

You can see an example here :)

Hi Saadet, thank you for your reply. I had actually tested this before. I have a number saved in a contact like this: (888) 555-1234*2. When I click the Call button for this contact, the 10-digit number is dialed, but NOTHING HAPPENS with the "2" part. On your contact, are you saying that you click a single button (the call button) and RingCentral dials the 10-digit number, then dials the "110" part thereafter? Is there some other setting I have to turn on to allow it to dial the extension? Thanks for your help!

Hey Brian! Yep, it's a one-click option that gets me sent to that person's extension number. Have you tried putting spaces between the phone number _ * _ Extension number? That is how I have mine set up and it works just fine.

So for instance your would look like: (888) 555-1234 * 2

Follow up question: on my iphone, I use a similar but slightly different approach, and I'm trying to see if my approach works w/ RC, haven't been able to make it work, yet.

Specifically, I want to dial the 10-digit number, then have RC wait for me to click, then RC dial the extension. I use the format (123)456-7890;12. Instead of a trailing * character I'm using a ; character. This works on my iphone, it dials, then waits until I'm ready, I click ok and it dials the extension (rather than hardcoding a specific "wait 2 sec," which is what the * character does.) Why? Many phone systems in my experience have different waiting periods built into their phone extension mechanism, the fixed "wait exactly 2 sec" doesn't work. It's more reliable for me to press the button when I'm ready and have iphone dial the extension. This is extremely helpful when I'm on the move, don't want to be looking at my phone to peck out the extension.

Question: can I do this in RC, instead of *, use a "wait for me to click, then dial the extension"? I haven't been able to make it work, yet. Thanks.
