pop up identity for Outlook

pop up identity for Outlook .... Packet 8 (or 8x8) has a software patch that can tell me who is calling in when someone dials my number. It is (used to be) linked to my 2013 Outlook and would give me all the stats I needed without having to second guess. I don't use my cell phone as much because I live in the high mountains so I need something for my desktop system ... I feel this would be a huge addition for Ring Central and would bring in more of the investment services into your foray. Can this be done?

Hey JB,

You can install the Outlook Plugin and then enable Contact Sync in the RingCentral App and it will use your Outlook Contacts as a Caller ID.

**Edit:
Sorry I had the wrong URL. Corrected.

Thank you,
Timothy

This does not help because I need the clients pop up when a caller calls me. I don't need to dial from my Outlook ..

  • Make calls directly from Microsoft Outlook—simply click to dial any phone number in your email message. Or you can dial directly by selecting a phone number from your contacts list.
  • Stay productive by viewing and receiving incoming calls while working in Outlook. The days of multiple applications open on your desktop are gone.
  • Schedule all your meetings—online meetings and conference calls—with RingCentral Meetings, directly from Outlook.
or am I missing something?

Look in the Ring Central Setting under "Contacts". If this is enabled it should "popup" the clients info when they call. This is my current setup and when someone calls me it displays their name.

The picture you have posted is nothing like the one I have access to ... Is this inside the Outlook link you posted earlier? This is what I show in my settings

JB... Can you provide some more detail as to what exactly you are looking for?  I think this a the terminology is confusing things a bit.  Above you stated you needed something for the desktop.  The image Timothy posted is from the Desktop App.  If you set it up the way he shows, then it should do as you want.  From what you are describing in your most recent post, you are looking at the Outlook Plugin installed in Outlook.

If you are strictly using Outlook, you should get a screen like this when someone calls in.   Is this what you are referring by "needing the clients to pop up? "

Sorry, it is most likely my bad because I don't speak Ringcentralease :)  Packet 8 has a Outlook Popup link that shows all my clients data when they call in.  All of their data is on a Contact within Outlook from every phone number I have of theirs and their account information  .... It's not when I want to call out, it pops up when they call in

So... it sounds like what you are wanting is an enhancement to the existing plugin. Right now, it basically just shows looks like my screenshot above, when someone calls in.

If you'd like to include more detail here in what all you'd like to see, I'll convert this thread to feature request.

If you have a Outlook 2013 software, just hit "New Contact" and that "whole thing" pops up when a call comes in ...  That's the best I can do in/as a description
Thank you

You may be able to try something like this to get this to work. I don't have 2013 so I can not test.

1. Open the RingCentral Desktop App.
2. Browse to Settings > Calls
3. Enable the "Launch an external app or a URL on incoming call" option
4. Enter "Outlook:Personal Folders\Contacts\~%N" in the "Execute Command" text field. (Also read "Outlook:Contacts/~%N" works as well.)

If this does not work completely you can search google for a way to open an Outlook Contact via URL or link.

Thank you,
Timothy

HI JB,   To do what Timothy is suggesting, you'll have to download the desktop application.

Download for PC  or Download for Mac

Then, once you have it installed, there's a small settings button at the bottom that looks like a gear wheel.  Click Settings > Calls, and then you'll see an option that says "Launch an external app or URL on incoming call, which has an on/off switch next to it.  When you turn it on, it will open up a field where you can paste in a URL to launch an 3rd party app.

If you use the method he suggests, you'll be taking calls via the desktop application, instead of the Outlook Plugin.

I don't have 2013 either but I'll try to test this and if I can make it work, I'll let you know.
