Record voicemail greeting from desktop app.

I am a U.S. account user.  About a month ago, the ability to record voicemail greetings from my desktop phone was very convenient.  That service has been removed, making it a hassle to update voicemail, especially when we have extensions that might change greetings on a weekly basis.  Now, I have to record through a sound recorder app, save the recording, CONVERT it to an appropriate file type, and import it.  This is the least-convenient thing you could have a business do.  THis means I have to teach EVERY person who might need to update our voicemail how to do this as well as upload sound conversion software on to their computers.  This is time-consuming and completely absurd.  Can you please bring back the record from computer option for desktop?

Hi Jill,  You can easily do this from the Desktop App,  Just dial *86, and listen to the prompts.  (option 2, enter pin, etc...) You'll hear an option to record your greetings.  This can also easily be done from the mobile app.

Yes, but is that only if I log into each extension individually? Maybe I should clarify. I log into the ring central website and login as the app administrators. This way I can change voicemails all from our admin portal. But I can't do that any longer without recording to my computer first converting the sound file and then upload it

Jill,

I'm a little confused. Initially you stated you were able to record greetings for any extension from your desktop phone. When you clarified it above you state that you can't record greetings for extensions even from the admin portal web site.

You still can record greetings for any extension from the admin portal website without having to save it, convert it and upload it.

Simply select the extension you want to change the greeting or voicemail greeting on then select the Screening, Greeting & Hold Music menu selection for any "Greeting" message. Choose the Set Greeting menu selection, which allows you to record over the phone, record from a computer microphone or import an already existing greeting from your computer. (HINT: I save all recordings, especially for holidays, etc. so all I have to do is import them rather than re-recording them. Saves a bunch of time if your business allows for that type of standard type message, even weekly changes.)

For any "Voicemail Greeting" message simply select the Messages & Notifications menu selection. Choose the Voicemail Greeting menu selection, which also allows you to record over the phone, record from a computer microphone or import an already existing greeting from your computer.

You can do all this for any user/extension from within the admin portal web site.

Nope. This is how I used to do it that is no longer an option.

Just today from a completely different computer I had to go into the sound recorder on my computer to create voicemail greetings. Then I had to convert the files into MP3s because the sound recorder does not record in that type of sound file. Then I have to save it and import it. Though it doesn't take a ton of time it is a bunch of wasted time in my opinion because it takes five or more minutes just to do the whole process.

Your screen shot is very difficult to see but I can see that you are referring to recording a voice mail greeting for a Call Queue. The instructions I gave above are for a regular extension however it's not that much different for a Call Queue.

Having said the above, here is a screen shot of my Call Queue voicemail greeting screen I took just moments ago. As you can see it does have the ability to record using a computer and a microphone. Question: Do you have Adobe Flash Player installed? It is required to be enabled to record using a computer microphone via the admin portal.

Have you started a case with RIngCentral support? You don't state which RingCentral plan you have or which operating system and browser you are using on your computer. This is something they will have to ask you about and look into. Mine works with both Windows 7 and Windows 10 with both current versions of Firefox and Chrome. As I stated above, you also need Adobe Flash Player installed and enabled.

Until about a month ago I could record. My pop-up window look just like the one you showed above. It didn't matter what computer I was using whether it was Windows 7 or Windows 10. I did contact a support agent then they told me that they removed that feature. So I'm not sure why other people still have it but I was told to write in the request they bring it back. So it seems that some people still have this feature and others do not. Which then means there is inconsistency despite what version of Windows we are using. The agent I spoke with did not imply that my version had lost this capability specifically. They implied that every version no longer has this feature.

I'm suffering from the same problem. Part of the reason I loved ringcentral was due to this feature, I didn't have to pester our IT people into getting me recording software and could record messages on the fly. The quality of recording over the phone is much worse and sounds very hallow. It used to be that any option where I would have to record  a custom message I had the option of recording using my computer. Now that option is even removed from the IVR. Please add it back on.

Karin,

Please see my response to Jill above. Do you have Adobe Flash Player installed? It is required to be enabled to record using a computer microphone via the admin portal.

Other than that, you can see that the functionality has not been removed from the admin portal.

You may also need to start a new case with RingCentral support. You can start a new case here:

Flash Player has been installed for years. No Changes to computer software. No changes to plan. The feature is no longer an option. Ring Central agent looked into this and told me it is no longer an option. They suggested I write in to the "idea" forum to request it come back. They said if enough people do this they would reinstate it.

Wow...that's additional information I didn't know. What seems strange to me is that since it is a web portal how can some people have it and some people not have it. Thanks for the updated info as to what you were told by support.

Jill and Jan,  I'm looking into this to see if I can find more details.

Jan, What web browser are you using?   When I open the page in Chrome, I don't see the option.  It looks like below.  But when I open it in Firefox, it loads fine.

Jill can you try Firefox and let me know what happens.

Mike,

I most always use Firefox. I haven't tried it in Chrome.

I just tried it in Chrome. I only get the Phone and Import selections, as you both are.

Let me see if I can download that browser. We already have Chrome and Internet Explorer. This is used to work in Chrome so I'm guessing it no longer does.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Record Voicemail using Computer Microphone.

We have a Canadian account. Previously, we were able to record voicemail greetings using our computer microphones through the RingCentral portal. That feature is no longer available since the website interface was updated. We would really like it back! It was much easier to use than the Record over the phone option, especially since we use headsets. Having to be called is an annoying extra step.

I have confirmed that this is indeed an issue with Google/Chrome no longer supporting Flash. So another browser such as Firefox may work for you.  For those of you who love Chrome, there is already work being done to remedy this.  I can't promise a date, but some of our web pages are being re-coded in HTML5 after which flash will not be needed and this should become a non issue. Estimated date is sometime in February so it's likely only a few weeks away.

It seems this feature which allowed uploading a voicemail greeting to a call queue voicemail is gone (again or still).  Will this feature be enabled again?

Sorry I should have mentioned that I tried Firefox, Google Chrome and Internet Explorer.  I also tried to reinstall/update Adobe Flash and Shockwave - all the same.
