Remove the 7-8 seconds of silence between greeting message and voicemail.

I'm told by one of your representatives that this long silence between main greeting and voicemail is due to the system waiting for an extension number. If we do not wish to have this 'direct to extension' feature active, how can one remove this long silence?
I believe this extended silence (which also occurs after hours when 'direct to voicemail' is active) is causing many of our customers to simply hang up because they hear nothing - not even music. (even though it is 'enabled')

Do you have the voicemail on an extension? Have you tried setting up a messages-only extension and having the IVR redirect to that? I test our IVR regularly and haven't seen this kind of delay. It's quite quick.
