Responding to Messages on Apple CarPlay

I would like to see Ring Central update the RC CarPlay app to allow users to select a message, listen to it and respond.  Currently, the only way to respond is when the message comes through initially.

Jill and Chris! Thanks for sharing this idea!

Unfortunately, this is a limitation on the Apple side of things.
We'll keep it in our back pocket until Apple changes that.

Are you sure about that? I can respond to Telegram messages just fine. Sounds like Whatsapp works as well (though I don't use it).

I agree with Chris. I'm not a developer, but https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQ9RBYDy8nE. A simple GUI is all that would be nice with a few buttons, such as messages, call, and text. If you mirror how carplay works for Apple Messages you will be well positioned. Apple does show on their site (https://developer.apple.com/design/human-interface-guidelines/carplay/overview/messaging-and-voip-apps/) that Messaging and VoIP must be voice driven, there is clearly an asterisk there given the very simple button display when reading, composing, and sending messages in both Apple Messages and WhatsApp.

So based on my 5-10 minutes of internet searching it looks like it is very possible.

If you are able to copy WhatsApp, Apple Messages, and even Apple Phone, with Siri driven interactions and a few very simple menu buttons you will be positioning RingCentral to be the only VoIP system that is fully CarPlay integrated, group texting, and really poised to be the market leader in this area.

<edit addition>
I went digging a little further and it seems the developer kit for CarPlay allows for buttons (https://developer.apple.com/design/human-interface-guidelines/carplay/system-elements/buttons/) on already designed layouts to help reduce distraction by requiring users to learn new layouts. WhatsApp seemed to use the same layout as Apple Messages.

Realized just this morning why this may be tricky with the RC mobile app. It handles both telephony and messaging. And the examples I included earlier are messaging only. So maybe there's no way to have both with CarPlay.
