My new phone has been alerting me that RingCentral has been detected using Microphone. This happens at random hours a day, and random times. Can someone explain what this means?
I have the app through my company, on my personal cell phone.

Is it safe to assume the APP and phone work ok, and that you are just getting the annoying notification?

Phone is new, I never got that message on my old phone. I assume RingCentral is in fact using my Microphone. I wonder if the APP has done that the entire time, I assume i am getting these messages because it is a fact that RC using my Microphone.
I would like to figure out the extent of the use and why.

I'm more of an iOS person, but I'm sure its related to the hacker exploit issues Samsung had in previous models.  More a less a warning message.  I'm sure there is a way to adjust, but as I said, I'm more versed on iOS than Droids.  Maybe a droid expert will chime in or you can reach out to Samsung tech support.  FYI... https://www.cio.com/article/2938572/mobile/attention-samsung-galaxy-users-your-phone-has-a-big-secur...

Viking..we are looking into this also.  When you installed the app, did you allow all permissions?  If not go to settings > apps> RingCentral> permissions and make sure they are all turned on, or maybe try reinstalling the app and allow all permission requests.

Hi Viking

Thanks for sending this feedback.

It is a false alarm, the RingCentral app only accesses your microphone when you are in a call, it will never access in the background.

This is due to the new feature on Note 8 named “App Permissions Monitor”, however it sends notifications even when some apps are performing normal operations.
You can see some similar feedback from here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/gala...

We’ve been working with our engineer to investigate this, and here are some technical details:
- When the app is killed (either by system or user), today our app will keep a background service running, in order to make sure you can receive incoming calls.
- When this service is activated, it will validate the permissions the app has, to make sure you can answer the call if it comes in. Probably this detection make the system treat it as “access”. We are working on optimizing the code to avoid this. You can try to kill the app manually or force stop it to verify this.

For now, we recommend you turn it off by steps below:
- Go to Settings > Lock Screen and Security > App Permissions Monitor and turn it off for RingCentral app.

Please let me know if you have any other concern on this.

Thank you.
