RingCentral Meetings linux support

Our company is heavily centered on software development, with employees across borders. RingCentral Meetings is one of the best screen sharing apps I've used in its simplicity & comprehensive feature set(sharing computer sound? awesome!)

Unfortunately, there isn't a linux client for participation. A lot of software developers use linux, and it seems like not supporting it is a huge oversight.

We'd easily have double the user count if it was supported.

We would like to see this feature as well for the same reasons,   we are looking at moving segments of our organization into a Linux environment but without Meetings on that platform - that will be a problem.

We really need this feature. I don't understand why its an issue. Zoom has a Linux client.

This is one of the most frequent complaints we get from a set of users in our Organization "Zoom has this, Zoom has that...."   we are working to promote RC Meetings via the managers and directors as a way to increase their efficiency (instead of travel and parking) but several of them are still glommed onto Zoom as their Go-To meeting tool. :(

Until there is a Linux client for meetings, we can not use RingCentral across our organization. This is not rocket science. It's been requested for years.  Just do it.

I was surprised to know about no support for Linux after our move to RingCentral. Please accelerate this.

Without Linux support, Ringcentral meetings wont be used by our engineers as we cannot manage the operating system that our customers will be using. It is better to have a Cisco Webex account which supports the 3 major operating systems: Windows, Mac, Linux.

This support is crucial.

How come meetings say "Powered by Zoom", yet Zoom has Linux support and you don't ? There's gotta be a way guys

Ivanner has a good point. Lack of support of Linux is our main issue with RingCentral. We have to use Zoom for conference calls that include Linux  users(most of our dev team)

Had this issue today. Zoom works great on my linux laptop but had to dig out the old windows laptop JUST to run a Ring Central Meeting. I concur... Do It!

Requesting as well.  I've had to retain multiple alternative options (webex, hangouts, etc) for vidconf since half my organization is on Linux. Would more than double users and productivity if we could adopt it organization wide.

My company has to have a smorgasbord of conferencing options as well. It's atrocious.

Zoom supports it. Please bring RC Meetings up to date ASAP.

Same here, Linux support is an absolute must and should not be treated as a second-class citizen.

Can we get an official word on this? Where is this on the RCM roadmap?

Sorry, but we can't give any firm update on this.  There is some work being done for the Chrome OS, but,  for the web/browser Meetings app, it depends on a browser extension. Google has hinted they may be abandoning these in favor/support of their Chrome OS.  So..in a few weeks we may have more info, but at this time it still looks like there is no planned support for Linux.

So.. everyone interested in Linux support please keep voting.

Mike, can you explain why Zoom does have Linux support, but RCM doesn't? I think that is a source of confusion/frustration around the issue.

From the outside, it seems like it should therefore be possible for RCM to follow suit.

Doesn't explain why Zoom has a Linux version. Its pretty clear that RingCentral has some basis in the zoom code.

  1. Account type  (U.S., Canada, UK,  AT&T, Telus, BT): US
  2. A brief description of the business : We offer large Retailers a platform to develop and deploy their next generation in-store experiences via Mobile Apps
  3. A high level description of the product or feature being requested: Support for Linux users
  4. A typical use case scenario explaining how your business would use the feature: All our developers who have Linux as their primary / only computer could participate in conference calls
  5. Benefit of such feature: We will continue to use RingCentral and won't have to have all conference calls that include our Devs use Zoom or look for an alternative to RingCentral (I.e. as soon as Amazon Chime has Linux support, we're gone.)
  6. Include any related case number if applicable
  7. Number of Users and/or Digital Lines: ~20 users about a quarter of those use Linux

2 years ago, I claimed the Linux support but I see that the official support message has never been announced.
Since, we have found a nice workaround.

For anyone who wants to connect to a Ringcentral meetings as a participant using a Linux OS:

Please download and use the following application:
https://zoom.us/download?os=linux

Once installed, use the meeting ID mentioned in the Ringcentral invitation.

Tested on CentOS and it works (including Screen Sharing and Taking Mouse/Keyboard control).

Hmmm, and if I download the mobile app I can kind of host meetings...
