When setting up the Ringtone it is impossible to test on the Ringer output unless it is the same output as Speaker because the ringtone will only play on the Speaker output.  I use a headset during calls and my computer speakers as the Ringer.  The only way to test the Ringer with this setup is to phone myself.  It would be far more logical to have the Ringtone output on the Ringer device during setup.

I am experiencing the same problem.
Seems like the framework is there, but something is mis-wired.
Thanks!

Try upgrading to v 7.2.  It should send the ring/audio through the computers default if that's the way you have it set. If you try to upgrade and it tells you that you are on the latest version and still shows 7.1 instead of 7.2, reply here and let me know.

Tried upgrading today but as you describe I seem to be stuck on 7.1 and it says I am up to date.

James,  Please check your email. I'll send you a link for 7.2

I did as Arnaldo suggested and it is working now.  Very slow to respond to ringer changes but at least behaving as expected.

I upgraded today and it fixed this problem.
However, the built-in upgrade checker failed to find me a new version!!!
I had to manually download a new installer!

My company switched over from Skype to RingCentral for integration with certain tools, but I'm surprised to see how many little issues I'm still finding with a product that would, at this point, be considered very mature and robust.

Unfortunately, I noticed another problem that I would place under the same heading: Text message notifications are treated as "Speaker", not "Ringer", sounds, so unless I have my headphones on all day, I will not hear Text Message notifications.

Should they not be treated as "Ringer", especially since RingCentral already recognizes a similar distinction for call rings vs call audio?

new idea

Please reference the new conversation here: Allow text message notifications to be sent to both Speaker or Ringer

Just to be clear, this is for the PC, not on a mobile device.
