Network: SDSL or VDSL for desk phones?

Hi guys,
I would really appreciate your help.

Which is the better connection for approximately 20 desk phones:

  • V-DSL 50 mbps
  • S-DSL 8 mbps

Actually depends on the traffic that will be used. Ex: How many phones will be on that network? I would recommend checking this article for testing your network and decide what bandwidth is best for you. thanks for your reply and the link. We will get the connections next week so I'm right now unfortunately not able to test it. Plan is to use the v-dsl for soft phone and clients and the sdsl only for desk phones. There will be approximately 20 phones.

VDSL is a significantly faster than SDSL or ADSL. The bandwidth difference between those 50 Mbps and 8 Mbps connections is substantial and the underlying technology for VDSL is superior overall. 

SDSL does have higher upload speeds than ADSL, but you may experience quality of service related problems on either of these two options if the load is too high with all things considered. 

If you are limited to DSL services, we strongly recommend VDSL over SDSL for use with your RingCentral VoIP system. When possible, go this route, or at least test with your desired loads before making any long-term commitments with the SDSL portion of your network. 

If you are setting that SDSL connection up strictly for a small number of phones and nothing else, you may be able to get by just fine depending on the quality of the connection and upload speeds you are receiving. Keep in mind that these are typically defined as "up to 8 Mbps" download speeds quoted by service providers. My biggest concern here would be your upload speed on that connection.

If you do opt for SDSL or ADSL, I would have a backup plan in place to be prepared to upgrade that circuit if problems are experienced.
