Separate PIN & Password change permission from "User Details" Role permission group.

Password / PIN changes are currently lumped with "User Details" in Role-based permissions.  As with all modern systems, the ability to set/change one's own password should be its own item, if not universally allowed.

Granting a phone system user the ability to change his own Name, Department, etc. is *usually*  undesirable, but allowing him to reset his password & pin is *usually* desirable.

These two do not belong tied together.

USA-based acct | 2287 Users | 3800 DID lines | 28 sites | all Polycom VVX500 phone handsets

2018-05-07  This is an issue for us as well, as we do not universally allow this to all users. Our workaround was to create a custom role, (which was not a great solution)  where the class of users that are not allowed are setup as a separate class of users by role designation.   Not all RingCentral account types have access to custom roles - so this is a further limitation.

Hi Cecile,

Yes, Roles need to be much more granular.  This is just the tip of the iceberg.

Best thing you can do is probably to up-vote  this Idea thread.

I was about to put this request in myself, I'd add in addition to it the ability to deauthorize a soft phone if needed (as a separate piece) we have a small IT dept at a large law firm and we'd like to provide general IT with the ability to reset passwords and deauthorize soft phones, but currently all of that is lumped in with every other user setting which is a problem for us.

Agreed, Mike.

On the softphone front, I'd just as soon see the phone re-register itself every time the app is launched.  As long as it's only running in one place at a time, it should be fully portable.

That would be excellent and would likely help resolve some problems and open up some options when it comes to our shared receptionist accounts, ie the ability to take reception calls away from the receptionist desk if needed (backup receptionist if the main one is out) without causing authorization issues.
