Our next release of new features and upgrades is scheduled to start mid-August. See below for a preview of what’s new and register for our live Feature Release webinar on August 9, at 1 p.m. PT | 4 p.m. ET, to learn more.

Introducing the new RingCentral app
We’ve made it easier to work your way, anywhere and on any device. Soon you will be able to access your favorite RingCentral features using one consolidated app. We combined what you love about RingCentral Phone and Glip into a convenient, single user experience.

Starting the week of August 13, the Glip mobile and desktop apps will be renamed RingCentral and include the core telephony features currently available in the RingCentral Phone. The RingCentral app will be your single place to:
  • Call with enterprise-grade reliability, quality of service, and unified busy status when on a call or in a meeting.
  • Message and collaborate with file sharing, task management, shared calendars, and more.
  • Meet with a single click to launch the RingCentral Meetings integration.
Once the rollout begins, we will automatically push an app refresh to current Glip users. After the refresh, users will see the new RingCentral app name, app icon, and calling capabilities.
Available for RingCentral customers mid-August.

RingCentral Meetings updates
  • No-download web client: Allow guests to join, view and listen in on a RingCentral Meeting from a web browser without downloading the Meetings App. A dial-in option is available if participants would like to speak during the meeting.
  • Presence update: Your RingCentral Office presence will now reflect when you are on a phone call or in a RingCentral Meeting by displaying your status as busy.
  • Company and user-level settings: Adding 40+ setting options for scheduling, audio and dial-in, in-meeting functions, recording options, and RingCentral Rooms. Both administrators and end users can access settings controls.
  • RingCentral Rooms
    • Scheduling Display: New ability to place a second iPad outside a conference room to display room availability and scheduling options.
    • Digital Signage: Allows you to display an image or website as a screen saver on the conference room monitor when a meeting is not in progress.
    • Android Rooms controller: Android tablets support coming soon.
  • Additional updates: Select dial-in country when scheduling, meeting time elapsed display, emojis in chat and as a presence indicator, and more.
Available for RingCentral customers mid-September.

New administrative tool: Audit Trail

System administrators can track account changes in their online account using the new Audit Trail feature. With Audit Trail, administrators have a centralized place to access, review and search phone system and user change logs, giving additional insights to solve configuration and user issues and track changes by other admins.
Available for RingCentral customers late-August.

Integration updates
  • RingCentral Embeddable: The RingCentral Embeddable widget allows you to extend loading custom contacts, creating conference call invites, and logging calls in third-party apps.
  • Message Retention APIs: With RingCentral Office® PremiumTM and UltimateTM administrators can read and delete messages via our Message Retention API, to ensure compliance and for retention use cases.
  • RingCentral for Zendesk: Updates include: incoming calls will automatically open the matching client record and create new Zendesk case; click-to-dial numbers within Zendesk; a more intuitive user experience for making and receiving RingCentral calls.
  • RingCentral Archiver for Box: Soon users will be able to easily archive essential content directly to Box through RingCentral Archiver--included with RingCentral Office Premium and Ultimate.

Will we have the ability to disable glip functionality?  Currently we only install the softphone and don't give our users access to glip.

Selecting Country for Dial-In numbers is super important to us - glad to see it in this release!
All our clients are in North America but not in our Home country so this is a huge fix for us / our clients.

One more thing - we need to be able SAVE the choice as a User Preference !  Doing it manually every time we schedule would be barbaric.

Thanks for your good work.

Hi there FlowTracker,

I'm working to clarify if the "Select country dial-in numbers" is a per meeting setting or a user/account setting capability. I'll let you know when I find an answer.

You guys forgot to add RECORDING TO CLOUD to enable RingCentral Meetings to be recorded either locally or in the cloud. Zoom does an excellent job at this now; I can't imagine it would be difficult to add considering you guys are white-labeling Zoom.

Hi Michael,
Unfortunately, RingCentral Meetings recording to the cloud is not in the upcoming release. Our teams are working towards delivering this feature. Please stay tuned in the coming months.

This is definitely a needed feature.  We still use Zoom instead of RingCentral Meetings primary for the Recording to Cloud and the no-download web client.  With the no-download web client being released in Sept, this leaves the Recording to Cloud as the main feature still missing...

With the new application, will the Glip/RingCentral app be able to search contacts from our Outlook contacts list to get phone numbers and make calls?  Currently in the Glip application we have been unsuccessful in getting Glip connected with Outlook.  This has even been an issue with the Desktop application as well.

Saadet, to be frank, then this update is of no value to us.  The Glip phone service as it is currently framed is more of an annoyance to us in the desktop version and on the mobile app for Android completely unusable.  We are now being forced to use a system that does not meet our needs.  How is this helpful?

Hey Carl, we are not forcing this onto anyone. You can still use the RingCentral Phone for Windows/Mac & iOS/Android :) We are simply adding the telephony feature to the new RingCentral app (formerly known as Glip). If you haven't checked out the announcement yet, I highly encourage you do :)
Photo of Carl

Carl

  • 266 Points 250 badge 2x thumb
I am very familiar with the announcement.  We have significant issues with your Desktop Application's function as well and its connectivity to Outlook.  Our concern is that this move is clearly sending the message to your clients that the phone app will be taking the backseat to the telephony in Glip (now RingCentral App).  Connectivity to Outlook is one of the most basic and essential features of any telephony application and a key discussion point in our conversations with the sales team when we selected RingCentral.  Not having this solution ready for this release is sending us a message.  Further there are features in the Glip phone services that are NOT available in the Mobile App service, such as adding a third caller.  It was our hope that this release would be moving toward a more unified solution.  From our perspective it is not.

Hey Carl, we have no immediate plans to retire our other apps and they will continue to receive updates, so I hope that puts your mind at ease. I completely understand your frustration regarding the 3-way calling. I continuously provide our Product Team with regular reports about feature requests (which we do receive hundreds every quarter). Please know that our intent is to to make the RingCentral app much more robust and feature rich, but it will take some time. But please don't get discouraged! We welcome and appreciate our customer's feedback and want to know how we can improve our app. So do please post a feature request and let our Product Team know what features within the Outlook integration you are hoping for.

Saadet, we can finish this conversation off-line.  I understand your "feature request" process, but, that has been less than satisfying (third line calling for the mobile app has been posted for 4 years now).

Hello!!

I realize that it may not be available to our team just yet, but could someone show me how to use "select dial-in country when scheduling" in Meetings? We have team members in the USA and in the Philippines and are excited about this update!!

Thank you in advance!

Hi Lisa,

You will see the option to edit "Global Dial-in Countries" in the Settings in your online account. The Settings user interface is getting an overall update, as well as many other options for admins and users to configure! Here is a sneak peek at the Dial-in setting option:

When will the new feature release include many of the feature requests which have been asked for in this forum? SMS logging?? Ring order control for desk phones? Why are you not listening to your customer base?

Hey Ryan,

I completely hear you and understand your frustrations and worries! It’s true that our Product Team has not released some of the top requests that are here on the Community. However, my team is working on changing this and we’re really excited about it! Collaboration and communication is very important and, unfortunately, it has been lacking internally. But with some great people on my team and the Product Team, we’re really making strides towards showing how important the feedback we receive on the Community is and how it can immensely benefit new and current customers.Your thoughts are important to us! Without all of you, RingCentral would not be where it’s at right now. So we can’t thank you enough! We truly hope to get the top most voted feature requests on the Community onto the roadmap and then implemented – it’s at the top of this team’s priority list (among other really exciting things). I know you all have been waiting years for some things...we ask that you all bear with us just a little longer as we get this ironed out internally and prove to you all that we are listening and care.

I get that small companies like mine (10 users) are not as important to RingCentral as call centers and other big businesses, but it feels like the desk phones are being forgotten about. We just bought 10 new Cisco 8861 phones, and discovered that the DND softkey is essentially just a ringer mute button. The DND status doesn't show on other phones or in the desktop or mobile apps. If the desktop or mobile app is active, all the DND softkey on the phone does is stop the desk phone from ringing, but doesn't send the call directly to voicemail. If DND status is selected in the desktop or mobile app, it doesn't show on the desk phone, but calls go straight to voicemail. It's silly that our receptionist can't see when others are in DND before she tries to transfer a call to them. I'm sure I'm not the only business owner who cares a lot more about desk phone functionality than I do about Glip or even basic desktop app functionality. As a pretty "normal" phone user, I shouldn't have to open an app to go into DND, and my phone should remind me that I'm in DND even if I selected that mode through the app.

Please tell me this issue is on a roadmap somewhere. It really feels like a pretty minor issue to correct, given all of the other information being passed around between desk phones and the apps.

Hey Spencer, DND on a desk phone does not reflect in Presence at this time. There are no plans to change this that I know of.
Photo of Spencer Stromberg

Spencer Stromberg

  • 136 Points 100 badge 2x thumb
I'm really disappointed to hear that. It seriously impacts the functionality of the phone. Our receptionist can't tell a caller that I'm busy without trying to transfer the call first or checking her desktop app. Other users don't know not to try to intercom me without checking the desktop app. And for true DND, I have to use the desktop app instead of the phone. While I understand the value of the software aspect of our account, I thought we were getting into a full-featured phone system. The 20-year old PBX system we're moving away from in our office allows all users to see another user's DND status. Also, since the phone reflects other elements of presence (available, on a call, on hold, and even when the user's phone is ringing vs answered), it seems like DND status is just a small missing link.

It's been nearly month since this release was announced and pushed out to the user base. Yet features from the Ring Central Phone app are STILL not part of the new Ring Central (Glip) app. Why announce a major update and push it out if you're not ready? Our users are very confused by Glip / Ring Central. They can use Ring Central for calls but have to go back into Ring Central Phone to access the HUD, fax or generate conference calls. Very disjointed.

Hi Ryan,

I'm sorry for the frustration. The features Natalie mentioned regarding the RC Phone app are separate from the RingCentral (Glip) app. Our Product Team is working to close the gap between the two applications in order to bring a more unified experience. They are aware that HUD and faxing from the RC (Glip) app are important and are working on it - I have not received an ETA on these items yet, though.

It says that  RingCentral Meetings guests will no longer have to download a web client, however, they are still required to do so when we send them invitations. Is there any settings we have to change? Why isn't this working?
