As we start to make incredible use of your SMS service, we find it would be helpful if we could reply via one of the services mentioned above...Not all of our agents are so savvy as to have and be able to operate a smartphone, and we hope this is a feature we can incorporate!

Thanks!

Sorry to not see this clearly.

Am I correct to assume that the new RC softphone will actually be able to mirror an existing line (like a RC deskphone) or require a separate number if an existing one is not already in place?

8x8 has this covered in a very effective way in their softphone. The softphone software is installed on the computer and based on a user login, it can become any physical number on the account. It mirrors the functionality of a desk phone for example.

In their implementation, you can toggle the control to either dial and talk via the softphone itself via a mic and headset or to dial the deskphone instead.

When traveling, the person can use their softphone as a deskphone replacement (in and out). Because they are logged into that particular number, they are synced with the voicemail, contacts and call log for that number even when away from their desk phone.

If one uses a CRM system or a simple add-in for Outlook, you can click on a number on the screen and have it dial the desk phone sitting next to the caller. If they initiate a call from their desk phone, it should be automatically logged by their CRM. And, If they preferred to use a headset or were traveling, they could opt for that as well.

I think many of us are excited that RC will finally allow us to use our softphone as a real phone, but we are also very concerned that it is implemented properly... otherwise all the waiting will be for nothing.

Personally, I see the current RC softphone as RC's Achilles' heel. Although this question does not really apply to the topic directly, your mention of its future development direction is my question.

The addition of SMS is a huge and necessary. If the softphone is installed it could control the messaging, but if not it is really important that there be a desktop app for SMS only. Basically, it is only a slightly different implementation of live chat which sends and receives using SMS and will have greater use than many would expect.

I am hopeful and confident that RC will look at other implementations and listen to their customers wishes to engineer what will become the ultimate softphone. Hopefully with video capabilities as well.

@Chris - a DigitalLine is just what we call a direct number. For example, I have an extension on our office's 888 number, as well as a DL in the 650 area code. If you have Office, you don't need a DL to make outbound calls *if* you're using the mobile app or a desk phone (i.e., you just need an extension). However, the softphone has never had this functionality - you've always needed a DL connected to the softphone to use it for outbound calling. This is what several of the above posts are referencing.

@Larry - I know SMS support in the softphone is coming. I actually don't know much else about the new-and-improved softphone (including whether it will enable multiple-login support, a la 8x8). We will have a beta available for this new softphone pretty soon, I hear, so stay tuned for that. You can find out firsthand what is and isn't available and provide feedback then.

I believe it will be available to any RC customer. It'll be posted on our website when it opens up.

Also, add presence to soft phone so I can know whether to transfer a call someone in my department.

I'm really looking forward to this feature please dont' forget about your MAC users.  This would help my team so much being able to text from the application especially when team members are on vacation.  I actually think it would empower me to order phone numbers for each team member of our real estate team.  Please bring this feature :)

Yes, this is much needed as well as Presence so we know who is on the phone. We also need an API to integrate with CRMs like Velocify or Salesforce.

Please! add SMS to the soft phone. Also, the ability to attach jpg would be awesome. It would make our office procedures so much more efficient. We are currently using a tablet in our office to send Happy Birthday messages to our clients. Doing that through the soft phone would really be nice.

Love the new features on the soft phone beta. Downloaded it last night. Has a few bugs (I expect this... it is a beta). It has some of the features requested in this post.

So the new softphone has the same interface as the smart phone app. I do prefer the old interface but being able to text from it makes it worth it. The problem I see is I no longer have message folders. I used those to organize VM. Is there a way to access those folders in this app?

OMG! Soooo close! No access to contacts in the beta... yet. I'm so excited for this new update.

SMS and easy access to favorites. My two most desired upgrades!

  1. Please add access to Mac/Windows contacts via the Softphone like its mobile app cousin.
  2. The ability to search and dial a contact from the dial pad.
  3. A system-wide keyboard shortcut to bring up the dial pad for fast dialing & searching of contacts.
  4. API for integration with popular contacts apps like Mac Contacts, CoBook, Outlook, etc.
Soooo close!

This would save our business a lot of time and would be greatly appreciated.
This would be great in our office. Our Executive Director tends to text a lot, so being able to reply at our computer (especially for staff who don't have fancy smartphones) would be very helpful.

The ability to SMS via Softphone was Implemented with RingCentral for Desktop.

If you'd like to SMS via the website or through e-mail, Please VOTE in the upper right corner to request this app.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Sending Business SMS from the online account.

I have called the company three times to try and get someone that can answer my question. Please please please help me.

I have taken note of the fact that if you have an adroid or an iphone that you can download an app that will allow you to text message customers (and vice versa) from your phone through your ring central number. My question is can you set this up so that you can send and receive SMS through our ring central dashboard after logging in at the main ring central site?

You cannot send/receive SMS messages via the RingCentral dashboard. You *can* send/receive SMS messages via the RingCentral for Desktop application (this is NOT the mobile application).

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Send SMS to RingCentral via EMail.

Most cell phone carriers have a method for receiving an SMS/text message via email. For example, if your carrier is Verizon Wireless, your SMS email address is "phonenumber@vtext.com". We currently have a web application that sends notifiers to team cell phones in this way. Since we are using RingCentral, it would be super to send these messages direct to the team and show up on RingCentral, something like "phonenumber.extension@ringcentral.com".
