SMS: Group Message

I am currently using send hub of which allows me to crate a group of contacts an label it for example ( Text Group 1). This is a group text per say, but the recipients do not see it as a group text. This is great for marketing to multiple clients at one time. If you go over 24 contacts you must use a reply code to stop texting but this is a good feature for Mortgage and Realtor Professionals like myself. So to recap its a group of contacts that I can press and send out how is your day going and they reply back to me directly not to everyone else. I just don't want to have to add 24 contacts every time I want to do this. There has to be a way to save them in a group. Major feature missing for business in virtual world.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Create a distribution group for group chats.

If you have people you constantly send a group chat to, you should be able to save that group under a name.  Kind of like a distribution group. This would allow you to be able to chat with them again at a later date without typing in all of the names again.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Texting group of clients, but creating separate thread for responses.

Is there a way to send a text to a group of clients without having the text become a group message? It would be nice to send a reminder to a group of clients, for example, and yet receive their response directly from their number as a separate threat.(separate from the other clients' views)

Anna,

Yes...When you enter more than one contact you will be notified that the message will be sent out as individual messages. See my screen shot below...

To send out a group message the recipients must be entered into our Company Contacts (which clients will normally not be listed in).

As an addendum to my message above, if you try to send a text message to a client (Personal Contacts) and also someone in your Company Contacts (an employee) you will get a message that all recipients must be in the Company Contacts to send a group message. It further informs you that the text will be send as individual messages.

I've begun working on Glip. Bits everyday. As soon as I'm proficient I'm going to try and sell it on my Partner, who though he is a RC customer, is slow to try new things. TY for recommendation.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Group texting w/mobile app.

When using the mobile app, it says that we can only send a group text from the company contact list. When I log on to my ring central account online, it won't let me add anyone to the company contact list. I'm guessing that we can only send a group text to those who work for our company and are on the company contact/extension list...is that correct? I can send a text to a group of people from my personal contact list but it sends it in separate text messages to each recipient so each time I want to send a text to a group of people I cannot refer back to the original text I made to continue the conversation/group text thread. It would be handy to be able to create "group" or "distribution list" of specific contacts to quickly send a group text and all replies will stay in the same text window as a thread.

Glip doesn't allow you to upload a list of phone #. It will be very convenient if we were able to upload a list into a group and be able to send them text messages in a specific day. Thank you. Lissette

Hi LISSETTE ALZOLA ,

Our product team continues to work on a tighter integration with Glip and our RingCentral Desktop product.  There is some discussion about integrating sms into Glip but there's no ETA at this time.

I agree with previous comments re: the creation of groups (outside company contacts) to send a text message to (similar to initial Sendhub comment). Seems like a straightforward solution, and it would be handy to not have it only through Glilp, as that's a separate platform/space. If we can already make group contacts in our personal contacts, why doesn't that group appear in our contacts in softphones? Would be a very helpful fix in order to send the same message a larger number of clients without having to add individually those clients each time we text a message.

Clive,

If you check my response to Anna in this thread (about 11 months ago) I describe how you can send group messages out to a group of people. You don't mention whether they will be customers (i.e.,in "Personal Contacts") or company personnel (i.e., in "Company Contacts"). They are treated differently.

Irregardless, an SMS message can be sent to a group of people. Whether they are in Personal Contacts or Company Contacts will depend on how the message goes out (as a group message or individual messages).

I hope this helps you.

I would like to be able to save that group so i don't have to build the same group again and again. This solution is not user friendly. It needs to operate simply so my staff can use again and again.

For anyone interested I found a solution I think. I am going to test businesstextbox.com tomorrow and see if can solve my 2 biggest problems. The ability to set up groups and text to them without setting them up again and again. Also the ability to send mms messages. I will post the results when I know more.

Hi Massage LuXe,   I realize you are looking for an immediate solution, but I just wanted to let you know we have some features in the pipeline. Our Product Team has been working on building a tighter integration between our Glip Team Messaging system, and the RingCentral product.  If you haven't tried Glip yet, you can just go to www.glip.com, or view the link below for more details.  Also, our product team does have MMS in the piple-line as well, and we are hoping to see this in Q1-2016.  We'll try to give you more info as it becomes available.

Im not interested in using Glip. I don't want my people to have to learn yet another app or platform to work from. They only want it to come to their regular SMS on their phones regardless of where I send it from.

Group SMS Feature - Kindly include the feature on group messaging where in you can create a group contact that you can use so you do not need to pick the  recipients one at a time. Once you choose the group name all numbers included on the group contact should receive the message. It would be a lot easier for us to choose the contacts.

It would be a useful feature if we had the ability to text multiple contacts with one SMS message. Some clients prefer contact through SMS and it would save time if we didn't have to enter the same message multiple times, also the receivers would be aware of other parties that received the message if we could group SMS. thank you

You can send to more than one recipient at one time, it just will not be in a group format. Also if you need to resend a text already sent just right click on it and click forward.

, or I think if you just hit enter after each # it will allow you to type more, but if not a comma always works with no space required

If you are consistently sending to the same set of recipients, you can create a group in the web portal, then send to the group.  But it won't maintain the group format as OnCallAnswer stated. When/if those individuals reply it will just be a 1-1 conversation.

Hi Mike,

Are you saying that if I create a group contact in my account web portal, I should be able to text that contact in my softphone?

I have created group contacts in the web portal, but they do not appear as a contact option in my desktop softphone or my mobile app.

Photo of Mike

Mike, Official Rep

  • 89,840 Points 50k badge 2x thumb
Yes.  Here's an example from a test account.  On the left you create a Group in the web portal.  Then on the Desktop App (or mobile app), when you select the recipients, you'll see the group name show up with the rest of your Company Contacts.  You just select the group name and it will send the text to each member of the group.

FYI, Once again, this is not the same as a group conversation though. But, it does save time vs sending multiple messages or adding multiple recipients over and over again.  When/if any users reply they will be 1-1 conversations, but, it might work if you just need to broadcast a message to those individuals.

Ok, thanks Mike. Quick follow up: it seems like this solution only works for company numbers since those are the only numbers I can add to a group this way. So, is there a way to do this with outside numbers? Or, is that the functionality we're still waiting on? Thanks!

NEED to be able to
1) Receive and Send group texts, NOT just to the company but to anyone
2) Be able to change /enlarge the fonts on text

going by all the info above it seems there's a lot for RingCentral to add into group messaging / messaging in general. These things take time I'm sure they care enough about their customers to listen to them which is probably why there is a forum for us all to pitch ideas and adjustments. I'd rather they take their time and get it right than rush it out just to pacify us and have it not work or have to make adjustments again and again. (patiently waiting for MMS and group texting) :)

We would like to text a group of people at once. We have the
Office@Hand desktop synced with Outlook contacts but was advised that this feature is
not possible at this time. We currently use an app on our own smartphones for
this but having it on our desktop would be great. I can tell you that all of our 15 users would love this.

I am often texting 2 or 3 clients regarding the same issue, so it would be nice if when they reply the rest of the group is copied as well. Currently it appears my group texts are going to each of them individually.
