Virtual Cameras

I recently purchased Wirecast to utilize an external 4k cinema camera for meetings. I am a RingCentral corporate customer on MacOS 10.14. Wirecast creates a virtual camera that is recognized by every other meeting app on my machine including native Zoom. However, when I select cameras from RingCentral, the virtual camera does not appear. Does RingCentral plan to support virtual cameras as Zoom does natively?

Hi Phillip,

Can you provide a couple more details regarding what virtual cameras are, and how you plan to use them? If you could provide extra information and screenshots on how the virtual camera shows up on Windows/MacOS that would be great.

The virtual cameras are exported from WireCast which is a popular Webcast software. My camera is a Blackmagic Design URSA Mini Pro 4.6k which feeds into a Blackmagic Design Ultrastudio 4k Extreme import card. The Ultrastudio captures the SDI output of the Cinema Camera and feeds it to my Macbook through a Thunderbolt 3 connection.

From there, WireCast creates a virtual camera that is available to any application that is designed to support virtual cameras. This includes almost all webcast software such as Skype, Google Hangouts, etc. Most interestingly, it includes Zoom which I know RC is based on. So Zoom recognizes the virtual cameras, but RC does not.

I am an engineer myself and suspect this is because OSX does not natively recognize virtual cameras for sandboxing security. I suspect that RC is only looking at system cameras and OSX won't recognize a virtual camera as a system camera. All the other platforms are also picking up the feed for virtual cameras.

Hi Phillip,

We confirmed with our Engineering team that RC does not recognize the virtual cameras like Zoom does. I've switched this thread to a Feature Request, so that you and other Community members are able to vote for this idea!

Hello, I'm contacting you guys because I'm looking exactly for the same application. I would like to use OBS via Cam Twist to create a virtual camera for my seminars. I have 8 HDMI cameras via Roland HDMI mixer and I would like to use it as a source for RC Webinars. It is sad to see that after 2-years from Phillip's post, there has been no action from the RC R&D team to make his happen. This world has turned around in a single day because of the COVID-19 situation and many of us have turned to online training sessions, that is why I use RCM on Webinars. If Zoom has the capacity to get virtual cameras, and this platform is powered by Zoom... it shouldn't be so hard to make it happen... right? I don't know how many points you will give me for this comment to rank this topic on R&D's to-do-list, but I definitively will change my platform because of this lack of interaction with third-party A/V sources as I've described. Thanks.

I entirely support this request that has been on the table for quite some time now, about 2 years now, with an absolute zero improvement  from RC.

Dear RC dev department, I think it's time for you to listen to your users and try to keep up with other platforms (which seems to be much fearless when it's about integration).

We all appreciate the effort you put on this platform, but to be really honest, you could push it a bit further and take things to the real game !

Thank you for those 2 years waiting for what apper to be nothing on the improvement level..... (no offense, but reality is what it is)

I hear you, man!

Hopefully, the RCM team may respond sooner than later with a solution instead of just a lame excuse... with all due respect.

Standing by to hear from you RCM.

Thanks.
