You did not detail for which model of Polycom you are requesting this info. On a Polycom VVX500 should be able to do it by logging in to the Polycom handset directly and in the wallpaper section of user settings add the image via USB stick in the back of the phone so it can pull your image from
there. Note: It would have to be reapplied once a firmware update occurs as far as I understand.

You are correct Cecile.  I'm trying to gather more info also.  There are a few things that can be done via custom configuration file by our ProServices team, so I'm trying to verify if this is one of them.

if a customer can have these added to purchased phones through RC that would be great, please let me know cause i have a customer who would like to add their logo to their cisco phones.

Thanks, Cecile and Mike, I do have VVX 500 and 600 in my office and was told by RC that they could not be done but this workaround should work.  I will let you know how it goes.

Cheers !

Thanks for that info Mike! We'd definitely have our logo added into ours by default if that were an option!

11-09-2017 USA-based account, 2287 Users 3800 DID lines, 28 sites all Polycom VVX500 series handsets

For accounts without a lot of phone handsets, if you have admin access to the handset - this can be added in the Polycom phones in the BACKGROUND section of preferences via the Web interface to the hardware.   We have thousands of phones, so we are not going to manually touch each phone to do it.  If engineering comes up with a config file that would allow us to push the image out to all phones - we would do that.   For smaller accounts  here is the screen shot of where to add the image

Cecile, this works but only temporarily. Once the phone reboots (for any reason) this setting is cleared out by the RC provisioning server. I have setup multiple phones in this way only to have them revert when unplugged, updating presence, or any other reboot event. It is not a permanent solution unfortunately.

That annoys me so much by the way

We tried for the longest time to get custom provisioning setup (background image, custom PIN {because it's blank otherwise} and a headset volume option), but like many things with RC, it just went nowhere.

Hey everyone, this is something that is now possible, but only on certain phones.  FYI.... this is a custom request, not anything we advertise, promote or support here on the Community.  All request for a custom configuration file must go through your account manager who will then work with you and our Professional Services team.  Please reach out to your Account Managers.

I spoke with our Account Manager, then professional services and was informed that the custom config file would require an additional charge.  It is quite disappointing that RC chooses not to listen to customers and add this requested feature.  From the user comments, it has been more that 4 years that people have been requesting this feature.  I don't know a single user that wants RingCentral as the logo on their phones.  I would prefer no logo to RC.

We will be leaving RingCentral for another provider that allows for the custom config file as part of the standard build.  Because we support VOIP systems and recommend solutions to our customers, we know what it takes to add the logo to the config file.  Takes no time at all.  You should have included it in the configuration interface from the outset.  Better start listening to customers.

I agree...after a ton of back and forth, we got the same solution from professional services.

And beyond the logo (sorry to hijack your reply here a bit), the arguably bigger concern is, all of our phones, once provisioned for RC no longer have an admin password for the web interface. The default one is stripped and it's left blank. And if you set one, and the phone is ever rebooted, it's stripped again.

It's pretty obvious, this is a huge security risk. If any device on your network becomes compromised, it would be trivial to scan your network for phones and wreck unknown havoc. In theory, even malicious firmware could be loaded. It's just a matter of time before it happens.

Come on RC...give admins a spot in the console to set a default password for all devices. In addition to something as basic as a logo. Even a logo URL would be fine...I'll host it myself someplace.

I think it is irresponsible and grounds for breaking the contract for the service provider to purposely expose our infrastructure to network vulnerabilities.  This must be addressed immediately.  Did you report this to them and if so what was their reply?
