When answering my phone; why do I need to press answer on the touch screen, instead of picking up my handset?

Yes the VVX500. The call group is setup to ring me then after 3 rings, it will ring 3 other users. When I answer the phone I pick up the handset, but when the others answer the phone they need to press answer on the screen before they pick up the handset. Also, when we transfer calls, we need to press answer on the screen before picking up the handset.

Hi Susan - you may want to try disabling "Play announcement before connecting" under My Settings > Call Handling and Forwarding > Incoming Call Information.
